Screw it, no new TV for me, I'm going to the Stewart/Colbert rally
Edited on Mon Sep-27-10 02:35 PM by no limit
I've been saving up most of this year for a new TV. Now that I have around $500 saved up I've decided that instead of getting the TV I'm gonna fly down to DC for the rally. Don't want to miss this event which I think will be historic. Going to take my 17 year old brother with me who is as big of a Stewart/Colbert fan as I am.

Anyone else going? This is my first rally ever (also first time on the east coast), really excited about it. How early are you supposed to show up to these things? Looking at the facebook page for the rally hundreds of thousands of people will show up, I wanna make sure I get as close as possible to the action as possible.

1. Suggestion
If it's not too short notice, why don't you try to get to the 10-2-10 this Saturday. I think it might be a lot more meaningful and will really help in terms of solidarity.

3. The S/C rally will get a LOT of media attention though.
And in this era, that seems to be what matters.

10.2 was just too soon for me to afford unfortunately, but I will be at the 10.30 rally - just scraping in, but I will be there.

5. I'm afraid the "attention" will be used to
marginalize ...you know, a couple comedians and a bunch of kids.

But, hey, I'd go to both if I could.

4. Both will be meaningful. More events = More awareness.

There will be plenty of good people attending each event.

8. Unfortunately I only have money for one. And with that in mind my brother and I have to pick Stewart
But if I could I would love to also make it out to the 10-2-10 rally. I will be there with you guys in spirit.

2. Good for you, no limit-you will have a blast! Usually
there's a meet-up place for DUers someone coordinates. I don't know if there is one, as I'm not able to go and having been paying much attention.

Quite a few DUers are going from what I've read.

Have fun-sounds like it will be memorable. :hi:

7. i'm going, and I'm bringing my 14yo son, too =)
Edited on Mon Sep-27-10 02:51 PM by ShamelessHussy
he's been a fan since he was 10... he's a lot smarter than I was at his age, not to mention my current age.

we will be downtown around 10:00 for breakfast, then straight to the rally. it will be my first in DC, so i am not sure what to expect.

hope we all have a great time, i suspect it will be a lot of fun and very cathartic :bounce:

:hi:

9. Kids these days, it's amazing no?
I am shocked at how smart my brother is when it comes to politics. At this age although I watched the news from time to time I never ever got involved in the way that he has.

Good for your son, I'm sure you guys will have a blast. You don't think 10am is a bit late for breakfast considering how many people this will have? I was thinking of getting to the area around 7 in the morning at the latest. Ofcourse I know absolutely nothing of what to expect, so that might be way too early.

13. yes, they are incredibly plugged in to whats going on in the world
and i love chatting with him about current events, he is a big supporter of Alan Grayson of Florida, and TYT - swoon - he really loved Grayson's latest commercial that he emailed to me...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtN0aHW_f_E
which blew me away. i hope Alan shares his production team with other Dems, as that is the best ad i have seen so far.

we will be catching a 6:30 am flight to DC sat morning, then we will have to take a bus and train into town, first stop will be the hotel, and then out to eat... not sure what time that will be exactly, but you are right, the earlier the better.

do you have a link to the facebook page, i am curious about how many have signed up.

Stewert's rally page is here:

164K say they will attend another 88K are maybe.

And yeah, if you are flying in on Saturday I guess you can't get there too early, I'm lucky enough to be able to get there a day before.

Edited on Mon Sep-27-10 03:08 PM by rocktivity
back in 2005 that you actually had to sign up for? It got me so pissed, I booked a hotel room for the anti-war rally September 24 without knowing how I'd get there!

As for me, I do have some money coming, but it WON'T get here until next week, so 10/2 is out. But the S/C rally isn't...hmm, maybe it's time to book ANOTHER hotel room...

11. I think this is one of those once in a life time opportunities
I know I'm probably totally overplaying the significance of this but I think hundreds of thousands of people will show up. And I sure as hell don't want to miss it.

22. Good choice. Participate in life rather than watch it on
TV. This you will always remember. The TV -- from communist china -- may last you about 6 years.
