Pilot who took photos of naked boys had obsession with circumcision

AN international pilot took photographs of the genitals of three young naked boys at a popular Brisbane parkland because of a disorder which made him obsessed with circumcision, a court has been told.

The Brisbane District Court was this morning told Glenn Anthony Armstrong photographed a three-year-old boy as he was changing and urinating on a garden near the lagoon at South Bank Parklands on Australia Day this year.

The court was told alert police observed Armstrong and seized his camera which contained 10 images showing the genitals of three young boys, including two who have yet to be identified.

However, lawyers for Armstrong argued the former V Australia pilot was obsessed with circumcision and suffered a psychological disorder that was "anatomical and not sexual in nature.''

Judge Kerry O'Brien was told Armstrong had been warned by his wife of 16-years that taking indecent photos of young boys was wrong, but did so purely as a result of his obsession for circumcision.

Armstrong, 48, was this morning placed on a three-year, $5000 good behavior bond after pleading guilty to three counts of making recordings in breach of privacy on January 26.

Judge O'Brien also ordered no conviction be recorded against Armstrong, a father of two of Western Australia, which paves the way for the disgraced pilot to take up an offer to continue his career flying for a London-based airline from Friday.

Well, he just gave an out to every paedophile that gets arrested - "oh, it's a psychological disorder, your honour.. it's not my fault".

Defence barrister Peter Kelly said a psychologist's report confirmed Armstrong's confession to police that he was "obsessed with circumcision".

The report revealed Armstrong had no inclination to pedophilia, but the offences were brought on by a condition called body dismorphic disorder - in which a person is excessively concerned about and preoccupied by a perceived defect in his or her physical features.

Mr Kelly said the condition was "anatomical, not sexual in nature" and he had been naive in thinking his acts were reasonable at the time.

He said Armstrong had sought professional help and "now has real insight".

"He is extremely remorseful his actions caused such trauma," he said.

Since his arrest he had lost his job and been forced to sell the family home and work as a courier earning $250 a week, he said.
