Joe Biden on Last Word. Go Joe. also excessive tech coolness
Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 01:08 AM by jtuck004
At about 4:12 on the video here..., Joe Biden says this -

"The important thing is we accomplish what we are setting out to do. Give middle class taxpayers a tax break, by the way, everyone would get the tax break, the same they got up to $250,000, $700 billion the Republicans want to spend continuing the tax breaks for the very wealthy, $360 billion of that goes to 120,000 families that have an average income of $8.3 million. they are good people, but what are they going to do with $310,000 tax break they can't do with the $8 million they have? Whereas the tax break for a family of four making $50,000 is $2100, a family of four making $100,000 is $4100. That's the difference between making your car payment, your car insurance, keeping your kid in college, being able to pay your bills. What we want to do is we want to give middle class taxpayers the money to be able to go out and do the things they need to do, generate economic growth in this economy. We want to take the $700 billion and pay down the debt and our republican friends, I find them kind of fascinating. They keep lecturing us about the debt they created, now they are talking about wanting to extend a tax cut that cost $700 billion for the wealthiest among us and they keep paying for it."

There's more.

But did you get that? Our opponents want to hold up tax $4100 in tax relief for a family of 4, the money they would pay their house payment with or a car payment and money for the local tire store, so they can make sure a person making $8.3 million can get an ADDITIONAL $310,000 discount on his or her taxes OVER AND ABOVE the deductions they already get. And if he doesn't get it, a whole lot of our neighbors can't pay for their kids school or take a vacation.

Uh, no.

(Note the transcript on the site is incorrect, he said "billion", so I corrected it. Hope my other typing is correct.)

tech stuff -->> On the website, in addition to the video of Uncle Joe and Lawrence, if you mouse over the bottom of the video a pop-up bar appears - click on transcript. Then single-click someplace in the body of the transcript that pops up on the left. A button pops up that's titled "Play from here". the video will advance and he will start talking from there. Not something I've seen implemented much. Handy.

2. I'm going to agree with him on the 'stop whining' part
When you consider all that the administration has achieved in the last 2 years, it is pretty near a miracle that anything was done with the condition the country was in post-Bush and the GOP in the Senate. Have I agreed with 100% what Congress and the administration have done? Of course not. But I also understand and accept that there will never be a time when I will agree 100%. The choice this election comes down to a slate of candidates which have most of the positions I agree with verses a slate of candidates that have positions none of which I agree with.

The part that does frustrate me is the politics around the election. And specifically, the "fortune cookie" politics of it all. Everything is broken down into sound bytes and slogans and there is no nuance. Unfortunately, the Democrats in Congress aren't playing to win, they are playing not to lose. And when you do that, you usually do lose. It is time that the Democrats called their opponents out on some of the crap the GOP is shoveling. Why won't GOP/Tea Party candidates debate? What are they hiding? Can they not defend their positions? These are the things I want to hear from the Democrats.
