Bigoted Indianapolis Bakery Won’t Make Rainbow Cupcakes, Citing 'Values'
Did you know that the colors of the rainbow are now debaucherous? According to David Stockton, the owner of Just Cookies in Indianapolis, they are, and he can’t make cupcakes with rainbow frosting for a gay student group at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, lest his daughters see them and, I guess, turn gay:

"I explained we’re a family-run business, we have two young, impressionable daughters and we thought maybe it was best not to do that," said co-owner David Stockton.

He added:

"We have our values, and you know, some things … for instance, if someone wants a cookie with an obscenity, well, we’re not going to do that."

It never ceases to amaze me how convoluted some people’s sense of “values” really is. This was an order for, again, cupcakes, with rainbow colors. If the group had come in and requested something actually vulgar, I could understand.

But no. A public establishment decided that they would refuse to fill an order simply because it had the taint of "gay."

I do hope the good people of Indianapolis send a message to Just Cookies by patronizing every other bakery in a two mile radius, even more than usual.

36. They did.
Another bakery is filling their order.

And, the city is also now looking into this because the discriminatory business is situated on city-owned land.

There is a local story about this in the Indiana forum.

7. The way they throw that "values" word around
Pretty soon it'll be synonymous with bigotry, narrow-mindedness and injustice.

It's NEVER used for inclusiveness or tolerance or kindness.

because people are going to go out of their way to NOT go there because of this. I am not anywhere near indianapolis..... so i can't avoid it for that reason. people have the right to do what they want. but they have to live with the cosequences.

12. They obviously fear the Rainbow Demon
Rainbow Demon by Uriah Heep

There rides the Rainbow Demon
On his horse of crimson fire
Black shadows are following closely
On the heels of his desire

Riding on in the mist of morning
No one dared to stand in his way
Possessed by some distant calling
Riding on through night and day

Rainbow Demon - pick up your heart and run
Rainbow Demon - lives for his sword and his gun

38. Haha his daughters are 17 and 20 Look below for the quote about them

"OK! If you're not already frosted, this should do the trick. The Indpls CBS affiliate ran the story during their 5:30 segment. It turns out the two "impressionable young daughters" are a 17 y/o and a 20 y/o Ball State co-ed. Here's hoping the City Market issues them with a suitable reprimand and that the ill-will caused by this incident puts them out of business."

43. They didn't have the ages in the orginal story.
I was thinking they were more like toddlers or grade school. And I was wondering if he was having them work in the bakery (slave labor). Even if he was why would the reason for the cupcakes be part of their need to know to get the job done?

Now we find out that they are 17 and 20 year olds away at college? Attending college? So how much time do those girls spend home? Do they help out in the business and when? I doubt there is much interaction between the family and business side.

17. Someone needs to remind this guy that
Rainbows were sent by God as a covenant to Noah. So now he's saying rainbows are bad. A lot of little girls love rainbows, baby animals, and unicorns. I hope his daughters fall into that category.

I think some of his local evangelicals should open up a can of religious whoop-a$$ on his store and school him a bit, but I guess they all think there's a different between 'gay' rainbows and those mentioned in the Bible.

I love rainbows. My aunt did too, but she passed away from cancer when my cousin was in her teens. After processing out of the church the day of my cousin's wedding, everyone was amazed to look up into a sunny sky and see a bright double rainbow. If it had been raining, it hadn't happened over the area of the church and reception. It stayed in the sky a long time before it finally faded. They actually had some of their wedding photos taken and the rainbow is visible. Very cool - whether it's coincidence or something else - it was cool.

22. It might be a good gesture for the State Democratic
convention, if it is held in the capital, to cater pastry from a rival bakery, and to publicly announce why.

Then have a huge spread of cupcakes in the convention center with frosting of all flavors and colors.

you will see dozens of one-star, negative reviews, all from the last week or so.

You will also see several other bakeries in the area, including:

The Flying Cupcake Bakery
at 715 East Massachusetts Avenue,

Circle City Sweets
at 222 E Market St # 50,

and the Paradise Bakery and Cafe
at 111 Monument Circle.

Please patronize one of these other establishments!

25. How ma ny people, really, walk into a bakery and
ask for cookies "with obscenities" ?

Two or three a week? Two or three a month? Fourteen thousand over a 6-month period?

And dammit, is Indianapolis the only city where this is going on? I suggest a raid on all bakeries at once! The FBI needs to know who is ordering obscenity cookies!

The GLBT group I advised created a t-shirt for the group. Nothing fancy, just the group same and logo, neither of which had rainbows or even the word "gay." When the place refused our request, as an official, recognized university organization, we put forth a resolution in the student senate asking all groups to stop using that business. It passed as did an official dictate from the university; no student group or university entity could use the place if they planned to use university money. After a year, and almost losing their business, they rescinded their decision, and printed several shirts for us...for free.

The soprano Constanze was tempted by Salieri with a plate of Capezzoli di Venere, i.e. Nipples of Venus. Other times, other people.

That Indianopolis baker is an idiot. I took my 5 y.o. grandson with me to order my b'day cake and let him choose the design from among the displays. Big yellow sun and a massive rainbow.
