Forget your anger at Obama, Biden, & Senate Dems! Vote in honor of Pelosi and the House!!
I'm asking that DUers vote and encourage everyone they know to vote this fall. Why? Because if we don't, the House will be punished for the failures of an administration that made too many mistakes trying to work with Republicans, and a few cowards in the Senate.

Consider the House and the fact that Nancy Pelosi and many progressive Democrats did their jobs, and did them right!! They gave the Blue Dogs and the Corporatists in the party mostly everything they wanted. Even gave up the notion of a public option for the Senate. And what do they get for all the goods things? All their accomplishments? A defeatist base of the party that feels disillusioned, and moderate and Independents who may or may not show up to vote; or, may who vote for Republicans.

When people do good things, they are often punished for them. Forget Obama and the disappointment with the Senate Democrats. Think about the House Democrats. The leadership from Nancy Pelosi and the progressives in the House. Think about all the good things, the accomplishments they made in the House. Think about the courage of Nancy Pelosi. Vote because you appreciate her leadership and the bravery of most--not all--House Democrats.

For those who are angry with Obama and the Senate Democrats, don't vote on their behalf. When you go in that booth to cast your vote, please vote on behalf of all the good things that Nancy Pelosi and the progressives in the House did for you. Why do you think the Republicans are pursuing members of the Congressional Black Caucus and all the good progressives like Alan Grayson? They know and understand that these are good people who have actually pushed for change.

So don't punish them by not voting or not encouraging everyone you know to vote!! Support these good folks by VOTING and by getting your family and friends to vote!! Channel your anger in the voting booth because I think Nancy Pelosi and the good Democrats in the House and in the Senate deserve your support!!

Hardly.

8. Impeachment is off the table and knowledge of torture, and that's just for starters...

Not to mention assisting in the daylight robbery tagged the "bailout"

She is no progressive, in my opinion. She's a typical status-quo career pol hack.

16. I know it sounds trite, but I really believe that she was being encouraged by the administration
who took torture investigations off the table. I think she was being pressured by the administration NOT to investigate. And I agree with you, I'm not a fan of that, but you cannot dismiss all the progress that has been made. I just think it's sad and wrong to do so.

And you're also right: I don't see her as a serious progressive. Never did. But there are *true* progressives in the House that fought hard for investigations and good legislation. Many of these stalwarts are in trouble in their districts.

My point is not to punish them for doing the right thing. My point is to honor them by voting, even though you may be disappointed in Pelosi on a larger level.

up in the Senate, from what I've read.

28. Absolutely. And then some. She had more Blue Trash to deal with.
Harry Reid was the one who exhibited no courage and left her hanging when she'd marshalled the votes to pass legislation.

There are some DU'ers who hate Nancy Pelosi. So be prepared to to get some comments along those lines.

6. I wasn't a big Pelosi fan, either. I was pissed at her for taking impeachment off the table.
Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 11:36 AM by Liberal_Stalwart71
However, she has redeemed herself in my view because she has led one of the most productive legislative sessions in a generation.

So people hate her. O.K., but what about the other House Democrats who stood up. Do people hate them, too? What about the good progressives in the Senate? What good is it to have their voices muted even further by allowing the Republicans back in power?

Really, I don't understand the logic of these people...

12. When the Party starts actively recruiting and backing Dems in the mold of Alan Grayson
They won't be in these predicaments. It's hard to solicit motivation from a base that see's little tangible difference between the DLC controlled Dems and the GOP. Their good cop/bad cop approach to passing conservative legislation is becoming quite obvious, and patience is growing thin.

22. You have to work for that at the grassroots. Run good, progressive candidates.
That's how we got rid of the likes of a DLC favorite, Al Wynn here in Maryland and now have the wonderful Donna Edwards. It'll take some time, but we have to work harder to get reliable Democrats elected.

I know it's an odd concept, but there are some decent folks out there running in downballot races who deserve some consideration.

It might take years, but that's my voting strategy. It's all I can do as a voter, really. The world gives you poor choices, you have to make them into lemonade.

27. Absolutely! We got rid of DLCer/Blue Dog Al Wynn who was a major
member of the Establishment. We never thought we would get rid of him. Ran Donna Edwards in 2006 and lost, but not by a large margin. Ran her again in 2008 and she destroyed Wynn. Sometimes it just takes longer for people to "get it."

The down ticket candidates do need the help and support.

19. Yep. Pelosi has been a GREAT House Speaker!
I have to admit when she first became Speaker back in 2007, I didn't think she'd be up to the job. Boy, was I wrong! Nancy Pelosi showed strong leadership and determination in the face of venemous opposition from the GOTea, and was able to hold the various factions of the Democratic Party together on key issues such as health insurance reform, the stimulus, and financial regulation.

You Go, Nancy!!!!
