WaPo (2007) - "Jeb Bush Rallies Conservatives at Summit" - Not "Lecturing" or "Scolding"? Bias?
Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 12:17 PM by TomCADem
Here Jeb Bush is doing the same thing President Obama is goind minus the characterization of his remarks as "scolding" or "lecturing." But you could take these same remarks, and characterize them as "bashing" conservatives for not getting excited back in 2007.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/27/AR2007012701171.html

At a time when the conservative movement is looking bereft, humbled by midterm-election defeats and hungering for a presidential candidate to rally around, Jeb Bush delivered yesterday in Washington a resounding endorsement of conservative principles, bringing his audience repeatedly to its feet.

In his lunchtime remarks to the Conservative Summit, Bush struck every conservative chord, blaming Republicans' defeat in November on the party's abandonment of tenets including limited government and fiscal restraint.

"Don't take offense personally if I get mad at Congress," the Republican former Florida governor began. "It's important for us to realize we lost, and there are significant reasons that happened, but it isn't because conservatives were rejected. But it's because we rejected the conservative philosophy in this country."

He added, "If the promise of pork and more programs is the way Republicans think they'll regain the majority, then they've got a problem."

1. would Obama ever appear at a "Liberal Summit"?
When was the last time Obama has used the word "liberal?"

Substitute liberal for conservative in Jeb's quote:

"It's important for us to realize we lost, and there are significant reasons that happened, but it isn't because liberals were rejected. But it's because we rejected the liberal philosophy in this country."

Sounds great. Do we ever hear it?

2. Does that alter the MSM framing?
Here you have Jeb telling conservatives that they lost focus. How is that not lecturing or scolding?

3. it's the opposite
Jeb is encouraging conservatives in their conservatism. Obama is saying "what is it with all you liberals and your liberalism?"

4. Sounds Like MSM Framing
Also, you ask why doesn't President Obama go to progressive groups? What about Unions and civil rights groups like the NAACP?

It seems like many folks are buying into the characterizations of the media.
