10 Signs The U.S. Is Losing Its Influence
Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 02:06 PM by izquierdista
Provided by the Business Insider:

We won't be the alpha dog in the western hemisphere forever.

Even if the U.S. hadn't crashed into a financial crisis, there are demographic, material, and political forces that have been spreading power around the Americas for decades.

I don't know what's worse, the narrow-minded article, or the narrower-minded comments. :eyes: Nothing like this kind of an article to get the teabaggers to spray the foam that's already coming out of their mouths.

on edit: I just noticed how the U.S. "crashed into a financial crisis" inadvertently, without a clue as to what went wrong with Bushomonics.

rude and amusing.

2. Does anyone else think that -even if this were true, for whatever reason-I might be a good thing?

Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 02:25 PM by Cid_B
... but on the grand scale of things its a minor issue. I hope America regains whatever influence has been lost and continues to grow...

8. Albania was never an empire. We're looking more like the UK.
Where once the sun never set on the Empire...

Only, they've got national health.

9. False dilemma. What about being on par with Germany?
What about various levels of power with the biggest dog NOT being bigger than the next 10 combined?

But no, the poster you're replying to OBVIOUSLY want everybody to be exactly the same, at Albanian level.

Give me a fucking break.

10. Thats the difference I suppose...
I would indeed prefer that the US was bigger and stronger than the 10 closest competitors...

PS. Makes me happy to hear from you CPD. You agreed with my position a few days ago and it made me a little nauseous.

Oh, and by the way: Gordon Gekko was the bad guy. Greed is not good. Your wish is not a healthy wish.

Edit: what was it? It must have been something extreme, like "Yes, The Human Centipede is a bad movie."

15. Re: Albania...Albania spends less than 3% of its GDP on its military, but has a
modern military force and is a member of NATO. Most of the population has NO specific religion, and many consider religion unimportant.
Over 98% of adults are literate.
Medical care system is "improving"...there are lots of hospitals and medical schools.
There are good roads, water, rail and air transportation.
The national economy is "improving".
Life expectancy is 77, higher than many other EU countries.
And they have great mountains and beaches, and very good inexpensive foods.
They have a single house parliamentary system, elected every 4 years.

Yeah, what a terrible place to live...

16. I look forward to not being a Superpower
And to being just another country. But I don't look forward to falling so far through our own idiocy that we become a third world country.

China is projected to dwarf the U.S. and the E.U.'s GDP by 2040.

14. Not to 'dwarf', really, but certainly to be on a par with,
perhaps even primus inter pares. But history is surely trying to move in the direction of a world with fewer imbalances.

11. Good. Maybe we can save the flagwaving for the Olympics like the civilized world.
