President Obama gave a great speech in Madison and said what needed to be said. |
|
And it was great seeing both Senator Russ Feingold and Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin united together with that young crowd.
The President seems invigorated. I like that.
And who knows? With Rahm Emanuel leaving, with Larry Summers leaving, with Tim Geitner probably leaving, and with sterling individuals like Elizabeth Warren coming on board, maybe the filter around President Obama will be a better one for him, the Democrats and for the American People.
In any event, today he showed he has it within him to do what a President has to do: not only lead, but to explain to the American People what is going on, and to tell them both where we have been and where he wants to take the country. He did all of that in Madison.
The White House should put this Presiden on the campaign trail all around the country. I can tell you this: Democratic candidates will not run from him, but to him. They will want to be on stage with him if he rolls this out again and again.
The American People are fair. If the media won't broadcast this speech, then do another one and another one until they have to.
Today, I saw a President who has learned (the hard way) that their is no "working across the aisle" with the GOP. I loved the fight in him today. He called the bastards in the Republican out over and over and over again.
Great speech. Kudos to the Prez.

6. Where do you think he's been? |
|
"That guy" went through his checklist, that guy reminded us of the hole we've been in, deeper than the last 3 recessions combined, among other things. That's what that guy has been dealing with for the last two years.

20. I was referring to his passion... |
|
his fight. Where was it when we needed it? Now he kicks the 'professional left' and makes nice with the 'future' of the party...the young people. He said they were the ones that got him elected, I thought that was pretty interesting. They don't ask as many questions.
Why does the White House think that those on the left that are holding him to his promises are 'going to take their ball and go home?'...projection. I don't see that happening at all.

21. Oh, I understood what you were referring to. |
|
And that passion as I stated above has been devoted to cleaning up the unprecedented mess this country is in. I just find it difficult to understand how one is expected to clean up and still do a song and dance.
The White House thinks so because of pollings, the media, sheesh just read DU for the last few months and the number of posts threatening to cut of their nose to spite their face is amazingly ridiculous.
Honestly, I don't see that happening either but it's not like the President was pulling that euphemism out of thin air.

but he's been kicking the left for a couple of years now. Maddow had it right, it's "punch the Hippie" time. We are the "old" left, he is the "new" left. Well I see little difference between Dems and the GOP...he's even using the proposals put forward by the GOP.
I'm aware of the problems he has to deal with, I didn't just fall off a turnip truck. I'm aware that sometimes things take time. I'm also aware that there is much whining and gnashing of teeth about the enthusiasm gap. I wonder why that exists? What did he fight for? I must have missed it.

23. As far as I'm concerned, |
|
there is a disconnect for those who don't see a difference between the Dems and the GOP, what he's dealing with and Utopian ideals. No amount of back and forth is going to get on us on the same side of this issue.
In your first post, I responded to the where has that guy been comment. Now you say you've actually been aware of where he's been. In your second post, you don't see happening at all Dems threatening to take their ball and go home. Now, you wonder why that exists, since you are aware of all the gnashing of teeth.
Hard to follow the logic.
But we can agree that we will vote.

24. Where has this guy been?? |
|
Haven't you ever used such a comment to express yourself?
Whatever, hard to follow or not I find it telling that Barry didn't find his voice until he was standing in front of a large crowd of young people. If you take what he's done and what he gave away or didn't address or fix and put them into two columns you might see it. What has he done for our civil liberties, the wars, etc. He's been active, yes, but what he's been doing goes against everything people like me thought we voted for.
Disconnect? He knows exactly what he's doing, he's the smartest guy in the room.

29. Those holding him to his promises are, too much, discouraging other folks. |
|
It's a rhetoric thing. The way you talk about the problem matters. Talking down the modest achievements makes people down on the achievements. So what if the critic is going to vote, or will contribute time and money - if they've discouraged enough people by the way they frame the situation, it's a net loss.

8. I liked today's speech very much. |

Rachel was just discussing with Sam Stein that the White House seems to have discovered the 'hippie punching' wasn't playing well.
I, too, hope that with Rahm leaving, we'll see a different message out of the WH and we'll see some of the President's better advisers have his ear more often.

He's stopped blaming Congress and Washington, which fuzzies up the message, and now he's blaming the Republicans. That's going to help.
