Back in 7th and 8th grade circa 1968, the boys sat at one end of the lunch table and the girls at
the other end. I wasn't a member of anyone's circle, so I ended up sitting at the end of the girls' section where I hung with a few outcasts from the boys' section. One of the boys I spent lunch with was MC. Now, I was a weirdly smart girl known for reading books but rather inept at the social mores of junior high. Some of the boys were also set apart by intelligence. I can figure out why we didn't fit in. All these years later, I find myself wondering if MC was part of our group of odd balls because he was gay. I really have no idea one way or the other; back then the entire concept of "gay" was unknown to me.

It's funny, because apparently a lot of people from that class remember me fondly, but what I remember is their casual ignorant cruelty.

I don't know where you ended up MC, but I hope it was among people who appreciated you!

5. We WERE different.
Thank god.
Today, we would be called "geeks".

I just did not "get" the majority of the peers in my school (s).
I was in High School 59-63, could not understand why the majority of students acted as they did.

Took a long time for me to figure out that being a square peg was really a blessing, sort of.

2. I was homecoming King....
...captain of the football team, class president, valedictorian, voted most likely to succeed, and a successful milionaire businessman at age 17. Hold it! That wasn't me. I was a bum. Oh well, honest mistake.

3. Notice that the best stories are always about the outcasts -
with the exception of Ferris Buehler!
