Grayson Trails in Florida

A new Sunshine State News Poll in Florida's 8th congressional district shows Daniel Webster (R) with a 7-point lead over Rep. Alan Grayson (D), 43% to 36%, in a closely-watched race.

3. Weiner? But I wouldn't discount Grayson just yet; polls are
good at being wrong a lot of the time. This could turn on its head by this afternoon.

8. His attack ads aren't resonating well with moderates/"independents"
but his newest ad shows a much better tactic. The one showing he helped restore jobs, saved the teachers, etc.

12. Check it out. Sunshinestatenews.com is obviously a right wing rag
First off, for another biased source, Grayson released an internal poll just this last week showing him 13 points up and the other side deeply divided.

http://salsa.mydccc.org/o/30019/t/270/p/salsa/web/common/public/content?content_item_KEY=235

While I was criticized for the Grayson poll's lack of objectivity, it polled about twice as many people than this poll did.

But let's look at a few of SunshineStateNews headlines. Read between the lines:

13. Internal polls are basically garbage...
Those are generally only released to try to shape media coverage of the race.

No idea whether this poll in Sunshinestatenews is any good, but I would never trust an "internal poll".

It is very unlikely Grayson is up 13 points in this district. It is much more likely that he is running even or down in the polls considering the environment.

14. We really need old fashioned "just the facts ma'am" reporting back
I can't believe what I have seen what has happened to almost all the media over the past
20 years .......... And right wing propaganda outlets that are now sold as news.

19. Very likely but I want to see another poll that confirms this is not an outlier. Here is why:
1. Grayson's district is an R+2 according to electoral-vote.com. It might support a candidate that is as progressive as Grayson has been, if they do it quietly but not if it is shouted from the rooftops. Grayson made himself a target with his outspokenness over the last two years. While we might have loved what he said, the rethugs did not and have targeted him. And seeing as his district has not historically been reliably democratic enough to support a progressive like Grayson, they see him as an easy target.

2. Grayson shot himself in the foot with the last couple ads he has run. The draft dodger and Taliban Dan ads were unnecessary and done in such a slimy way that it has turned off a lot of voters who would have otherwise been open to voting for Grayson. Grayson has come off as another politician will to say anything to get elected, rather than the defender of the middle and lower classes that we have seen him to be over the last two years.

This poll was taken before those ads ran, so Grayson may be doing worse.
