Webster raises off Grayson attack
Source: Politico

Former Florida state Sen. Dan Webster isn’t just pushing back on an attack ad from Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson labeling him “Taliban Dan” – he’s also raising money online at a quick clip.

Webster’s website now features a front-page debunking of Grayson’s ad, which edited a clip of Webster urging religious conservatives, “Don’t pick the ones that say, ‘She should submit to me,’” to make it look like he just said: “She should submit to me.”

The Republican sent out an appeal Tuesday declaring Grayson’s ad “ludicrous and false” – and pulled in about $70,000 online as of midnight. That’s a big sum for a candidate who entered the race late and had $105,000 on hand as of Aug. 4.

Grayson's attack – the latest of several no-holds-barred assaults on Webster – has drawn attention from both national media and national Republican leaders. South Dakota Sen. John Thune, appearing Tuesday night on Fox News, declared the ad a “sign of desperation.”

I think Grayson made his campaign 'national' by making such a patently false TV ad, and attracted Repug money and attention from across the country due to his loathsome ad.

We can't afford to lose this seat, but Grayson is throwing it away - a poll says Grayson is losing.

1. The ad was awful...
I can not yet understand why the Grayson campaign put that ad out.

Maybe Grayson's strategists believed they'd have to nationalize the race to win or something.

2. Except that the ad's not really false..
Institute of Basic Life Principles really believes that and really is that batshit crazy.

They take the fundie craziness to a whole 'nuther level. Just being associated with IBLP alone should be damning enough.

3. The Grayson ad was a serious mistake. It was simply
and deliberately incorrect, and many people don't like that sort of thing. His campaign may have cost Grayson this election.

11. Err...
Even if Taliban Dan's quote was taken out of context, I'm sure he's said some pretty crazy things in speeches he's given to this cult over the years. It doesn't change the fact that the group itself holds those and other insane views about moral hygiene and about the role of men and women in society.

18. I agree with you, but he shot himself in the foot
and I don't take to liars whether republican or democrat. He could have made the point with an honest ad. The ad is beneath him.

Some of these people on this board are absolute cowards. What a spineless, pathetic group. Heaven forbid they ever fight for anything at all.

13. No, attacking republicans about things that are very easy to disprove is the issue.
Grayson F'ed up here twice:

Once in an ad claiming that Webster was a draft dodger. He wasn't. He received deferments to go to college and then was medically DQ'ed after school when he went to join. Why make this an issue, especially if Grayson has never served? I doubt that anyone really cares about Vietnam service or lack of it in this election.

The second in taking a video clip and cutting it up to make it seem like Webster was saying the exact opposite of what he was in the clip. Webster's views on women are bat shit crazy enough that you just have to show them. Taking the clip out of context, not to mention how easy it was for Webster to provide the whole clip in context, makes Grayson look really slimy. If he had just let Webster's position speak for itself, than Grayson would have had a HUGE win.

17. Grayson is going to kick Webster's ass, just watch.
His "mistakes" are tame stuff, in politics in this countrey flat-out lying is the norm.

15. Grayson's ad was great!
Taliban Dan tried debunking it, but all it proved was that Grayson was right all along.

Oh well. If he wants to throw away money, let him.
