Keep sharp, people. The correct term is TEABAGGERS.
Edited on Wed Sep-29-10 01:10 PM by Commie Pinko Dirtbag
Because the person you're conversing with is saying "Tea Party" this, and "Tea Partiers" that, doesn't mean you have to slip into their parlance.

That will be all. Have a nice day. Actually no, that's not all. If some pearl-clutching "concerned" poster comes here deriding the "name-calling", you'll know when to raise the alarm bells.

1. Teabaggers
Would not be the worst thing I would call them. A few other choice words come to mind.

I've seen "Tea Partiers" used here at the DU. That shit needs to stop. They were once, and will always be Teabaggers.

7. Is this really a big deal?
I use 'tea party' exclusively. That's the term I'm most comfortable with and it's my choice. Why would anyone care what term I choose to use?

12. Tea Party is a re-branding...
They originally called themselves teabaggers, without knowing the sexual connotation associated with the name.

As the OP suggested, using Tea Party is a concession to what they want.

16. I'm aware of that
I know the term originated within the group. But I have to ask again . . . why would anyone care what term I choose to use? Is your only reason because that's what they want to be called and if they want it, you don't? I try to call groups of people what they ask to be called, as long as its within reason, no matter my personal opinion of the group.

Well, there you have it! I take great offense at these GOPers co-opting a good name! Teabaggers... pft!

So when you call them tea baggers and they hold a dominant position its progressives that will end up accepting the sweaty, salty, hairy end of the transaction.

I myself will be disabusing myself of such imagery.

He got pissed. LOL! He said "how would you like it if I called you a dyke?" I told him I never labeled myself as a dyke, but they labeled themselves as Teabaggers. I never thought I'd see the day that my brother thinks Rhodes Scholars are dumb like Rachel Maddcow as he calls her, and Palin is Presidential. I don't know how he can continue this. It boggles the mind.

46. There's a whole/part problem.
Not all of them called themselves "teabaggers." To say every one can or must be called "teabagger" because some did rather implies that's the norm for designations.

You use "I" to say you're an individual and that what others in a group do is irrelevant, you have to go person by person. Then you use "they" to say that what some individuals do in that group serves to define and label the group, then you deny their individuality by saying what individuals in that group do is irrelevant.

My in-laws are all tea partiers. They never used "teabaggers." One is emerita faculty in biology, another is ABD in geophysics, another 2 are the proud mother and stepfather of an out gay man.

39. If they blame liberals for this, remember...
Origin of the term Teabaggers? It came from the movement itself, when they asked people to "teabag" Obama by sending symbolic teabags, apparently ignorant of the college prank of the same name. This was all well documented, including here: http://www.lemondrop.com/2009/04/10/gop-wants-to-teabag... /

If they don't want to be called Teabaggers, they shouldn't use "teabag" as a verb, as found on their t-shirts or signs which are easily seen in Google Images searches. It's pretty basic to call someone who teabags a teabagger, so I'm surprised some are now taking offense.

But we'll always remember the orignial definition....

50. One more reason to not use "Tea Party":
The people they're trying to name themselves after -- the guys in 18th Century Boston -- took it upon themselves to destroy the equivalent of millions of dollars worth of property of one of the most financially and politically powerful corporations of its day. The act itself carried the prospect of immediate (and likely bloody) violence, had there been any determined resistance to their actions. And even without bloodshed, the action was sufficient to precipitate a military crackdown on the entire city.

And teabaggers have the gall to claim to be the heirs to that legacy? :puke:
