Rove-affiliated, billionaire-backed committee pours $247K into Marco Rubio's coffers in Florida
Karl Rove and The Billionaires funding American Crossroads are buying Rubio's US Senate election in Florida.

Because stealing it is just so 2000, you see.

The Florida Independent reports:

The Miami Herald‘s Naked Politics broke news this morning about a new round of cash entering the Florida Senate race on behalf of Republican candidate Marco Rubio: “A new political committee with ties to Republican strategist Karl Rove is starting to throw money around, including nearly $250,000 to Republican U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio.”

The committee in question, American Crossroads, is funded “almost entirely by billionaires,” in the words of our sister site The Washington Independent, which has examined the committee’s nationwide efforts at length. In August, TWI reported that American Crossroads plans to spend $10 million on November get-out-the-vote efforts in eight battleground states, including Florida.

From Miami's Naked Politics:

The committee, American Crossroads, reported the so-called independent expenditure to the Federal Elections Commission yesterday. The group can't coordinate with the Rubio campaign but can spend as much as it wants.

ABC News calls American Crossroads "a pro-Republican "super PAC" that "has emerged as a powerful force in key U.S. Senate races this election season, dominating groups of its kind in fundraising and spending.... The group is also the most prominent example of the new campaign finance dynamic created in the wake of two Supreme Court decisions earlier this year that lifted some limits on campaign spending and allowed corporations and interest groups to funnel money directly into political campaigns."

And we can finger the Bush era right-wing partisans on the Supreme Court as the purveyors and architects of this outcome.

We the people no longer have a voice in electing our government.

Big Money has murdered it.

5. Yes- it would be helpful if one of them would drop out for the sake of the country
But it's not gonna happen. I keep hoping for a huge Crist scandal- something so big that it rocks him out of running. A gay hooker would be helpful now- or maybe some deep financial secret of using huge sums of money illegally- Alas that's not going to happen and we will be having Rubio as our senator in 2011... Sad to say but most probably true.

4. Thank you for your outstanding post, seafan.
The GOP is all about money and, increasingly so, the corporate-minded Democrats. No way will they "allow" a level playing field. Thus, Campaign Finance Reform, let alone clean and verifiable elections, will certainly require great patience and the kind of longevity not seen since the days of the Old Testament.

6. You're welcome, Octafish.
It's a sick, sick place our country is in.

But being among those who truly give a damn makes it less demoralizing. Thank you for all of your contributions to the body of intelligence here.

Patience and perseverance, my friend.

8. K&R. I'm truly scared about Rubio. I'm hoping for a huge Rubio scandal
Something that would derail him. But it would have to be something such as him cheating on his wife. His corruption and stealing which have been publicized aren't enough.

The saddest thing here is that he's quite a number of points from even reaching 50% The majority of Florida voters DON'T want him. They are just split between the two other candidates; meanwhile Rubio is scurrying by them like the dirty, poisonous snake he is. That guy us a real threat.

How can this be so screwed up?

9. Corruption, graft and extremism can look good slathered in millions.
And thanks to the Supreme Court rulings, it's the new reality.

The facts haven't mattered for quite a while, now.

Now, the question becomes, 'what will we the people do about it?'.

Sorry, Scalia. 'Getting over it' won't be the path we take.

10. I just found out Rove's dancing partner will be moderating the big
debate. Surely he'll bring up such matters and their serious danger on free and fair elections.

Jebus Crispy! Candy Crowley is the moderator of the first one.
