Prepare to be a victim in the next terrorist attack....or prepare for battle?
Since the U.S. Government is warning us citizens that there is a high(er) probability of a "Mumbai Style" terror attack in the next few minutes/hours/days/weeks/months I was curious to know what is the point of the warning?

What exactly should I do differently *now* that I wasn't doing before the "heightened" alert?

Should I prepare my loved ones for martyrdom?

Should I prepare to give blood for the wounded?

Should I read a book on First Aid and Triage for mass casualty events?

Should I prepare to "be prepared?"

Should I buy a firearm?

Should I prepare to defend my home and my family?

Should I prepare to defend my neighborhood?

Should I stay inside with the doors locked and scan the yards through closed curtains every few minutes?

What is it exactly should I/we be doing?

What does being vigilant mean these days? Is the ban on Islamophobia suspended for the duration of the higher threat level or should I continue to be equally suspicious of all suspicious looking people that don't meet any particular ethnic or religious profile?

Serious questions. I want to be prepared but I am at a loss as to where to begin.

Unless a http://www.nerdist.com/2009/05/7ish-things-i%E2%80%99ve-always-wondered-about-back-to-the-future/">van of Libyan terrorists drives past me shooting at a DeLorean I am at a loss as to who I should be scanning for threats.

4. You have a greater chance of having your head crushed by a meteor than being killed by a terrorist
But yet nobody wants to buy my meteor-proof umbrellas. Why?

8. I see nothing wrong with obtaining a firearm for self defense ...
or getting a concealed carry permit and carrying a handgun on a regular basis. (Note: firearms are not for everybody. Owning one requires sober thought and also involves very serious responsibility.)

If you take the time and effort to become proficient with your chosen weapon it could save your life in the unlikely event that your home is invaded while you are home or if a mugger decides to attack you with the intent of seriously injuring or killing you while you are on the street,

As far as stopping a terrorist attack, I doubt that owning a firearm will make much difference.

10. All very good questions
I wish Shrub would have been as vigilant before 9/11. I think, maybe, when THIS administration says to be vigilant, it actually means it unlike the Shrub admin where they cried wolf and now we have reactions like those in this thread.
