After a month, she was still there, HIGH 5's this time

In my previous post about this I never really explained why I cried so hard over a glass of iced tea. I knew that Starbucks has fired several workers illegally for trying to form a union at their stores in several cities. My thoughts were this young lady may have a very hard road in front of her.

I've heard that Starbucks is digging in and playing dirty tricks on the union members at the downtown Omaha store that just simply want a union. I have worried that the young barista I wrote about last month would get fired perhaps in part to my DU post (and reposted widely) that went around the world of labor. I'm sure Starbucks corporate offices have read that post too.

Today I went back. I went in the door and before I got to the counter, I saw her and she smiled at me. The young man at the counter (yes the same one as last time) asked what I'd like. I asked for a green iced tea served by a unionized barista. This time he said no problem. She came to the counter immediately. She confirmed my order. She then asked if I was Mike? I replied I'm Steve.

She made my tea and took it to the pick up end. She again thanked me for my support. I figured from her smile she remembered me. I said I wrote about you on the net. Her smile grew and she exclaimed "I read it"! We did high five's. I wish I could have hugged her. I hope Starbucks will end it's anti-union attitude and the workers get their union.
