Silent Scream
I saw my first “Super-Pac” anti-Democratic ad a few days ago. I don’t remember the exact words, but the message went something like this:

Out of work? The Democrats have shipped your job overseas! No, wait, they stole it and gave it to a bunch of wet backs. And they are giving all your money to shiftless, lazy Black public servants, who drive Cadillacs and dine on steak while you are on the street, eating cat food you fished out of the trash. Do you ever want to work again? Do you want your kids to go to bed with full stomachs? Vote Republican!

A scream rose in the back of my throat. I wanted to shout back at the television “You lying son’s of bitches! Karl Rove, with your $50 million American Crossroads---you bankrupted the country with the trillion dollar Iraq War for Oil and tax cuts for the rich! Koch Brothers----your oil price gouging devastated the transportation, manufacturing and retail sectors of the economy! Big Pharm----your Medicare Part D is bankrupting Social Security! Wall Street----you begged us for $700 billion dollars to cover your bad bets. And now you Corporate Welfare Queens have the gall to spend the money you stole from trying to steal another election---“

My words died unspoken. How does one person shout down billions of dollars of unregulated corporate spending? The press isn’t going to say a word. Radio and television stations are raking in million dollar windfalls, airing these corporate lies. Thanks to the Supreme Court, free speech in this country is no longer "free". You have to be rich to make your voice heard. Working Americans have no money to start their own PAC. The unions, which were supposed to make it all “fair and balanced” can not begin to match the kind of money the nation’s billionaires are spending.

We, the people of the United States, who were promised a fair shake in a democracy where every person has one vote---we have been gagged, just like Bobby Seale.

1. I believe there should be real world consequences for these scumbags
not legal, real world.

They hide behind the veneer of civilization while poisoning the culture.

A good ass kicking requiring months of physical rehab and PTSD counseling would be an adequate lesson, I think.

Where I come from you can say whatever you want, as long as you can haul the freight that it might create.

Fascist societies are invariably, unbearably polite.

6. Roger that
A good beating is sometimes justified and effective. With pain comes awareness.
Impeach Scalia and Thomas for not recusing themselves in Bush v. Gore and subverting the Constitution.

16. My Dad was a fire chief in a big city in Canada.
He told me a story about some thefts that were happening at one of the stations whenever the station rolled out on a fire. While the station was empty, and the firemen were out saving life and property, crooks would enter the station and steal food, jackets, equipment, etc. It was pretty shameless.

The RCMP were consulted and said that they would increase patrols but that they were spread pretty thin (RCMP's old motto was "One Mountie, One Riot"). So the RCMP gave the firemen the following advice.

If you catch them, beat the living shit out of them but not so bad that they need hospitalization. Then dump them in a dumpster and call us. We'll take it from there. So the firemen stages a fake fire alarm and rolled the trucks out, but most of the guys stayed in the station hidden. The crooks came in. The guys grabbed them and beat the shit out of them and dumped them in a the dumpster out back, loaded about 1000 pounds of sand bags on top of the dumpster and called the cops. The cops showed up after about 6 hours, cuffed the crooks and the problem never happened again.

The motto of this story is that sometimes violence does solve problems.

4. That about says it all....
What they are saying (without saying it) is FUCK DEM NI**ERS!
Flame at me if you wish, but I've been through this shit before.
They got a billion dollars of SCOTUS granted funds to spread that message.
And that ain't something I've seen before.

We got some crazy times coming down the road.
I've been around the block a time or two and as a old guy, I'm getting scared.

5. Divide and conquer has been corporate America's tool for over 100 years.
Persuade one part of the working class that another part of the working class---different color, different gender, different language---is the reason it does not have enough food to eat or a roof over its head or a decent job.

If we would all work together, we would get the kinds of worker protections they have in Western Europe. But, it is so much easier to hate another worker than to acknowledge that your boss does not give a shit about you and would shoot you in the back of the head if he thought he could turn a profit peddling your corpse.

11. Working together -

that seems to be the hard part, because those divisive tools are at work right here on this site. Pick a party is used to divide the so-called "middle" class as well.

When people ask me whether I'm a democrat or republican I respond "I support labor, we don't have a party". Unfortunately that is the truth in this country, and as you pointed out in Europe the Labor parties have strength. The key is to letting leftists speak, and that is a trick in this country because they were silenced in the 50's. We see that happening again with Obama's DOJ targeting anti-war groups. It is always the leftists that are targeted because we believe that a strong and united working class can prevail. Unfortunately the ruling class also realizes this, and will do anything they can to shut our voices down.

8. If even a quarter of Americans
fall for this crap, then the country is not likely savable.

This ad needs to be mentioned by every Democrat interviewed in the next month. It needs to be held up to the light. If the light of day doesn't destroy this kind of thing for American citizens, then we probably don't deserve a better government.

full blown hostility. And not against republicans.

14. Obviously, one person can't. That is very clear.
Yet, coming together isn't a skill "progressives" have honed, is it?

Beginning with ignoring and leaving out poor folk, the effort to really combine our strengths has been lost.

Too bad.

22. Did you try to find this commercial on Youtube?
Or did you just make the whole thing up to make a point? You never responded to that request. Now I'm beginning to wonder. I see that you had time to create a whole new journal entry. Can you at least give some keywords or some kind of indication as to who may have sponsored the commercial, so that I can search for it?
