What a surprise! WSJ is full of shit.

— By Kevin Drum

| Thu Sep. 30, 2010 8:29 AM PDT.Last night, in the latest evidence that the Murdoch-ization of the Wall Street Journal proceeds apace, the WSJ reported that McDonald's was threatening to cancel its employee health insurance, calling it "the latest indication of possible unintended consequences from the health overhaul."

Yawn. Put this one in the same bucket as the student health insurance scare a few weeks ago. As Aaron Carroll points out, there's nothing either new or unintended about this. As Igor Volsky points out, both McDonald's and the Obama administration said this morning that the story was overblown. "Wrong," said HHS. "Completely false," said McDonalds.

3. "All the news that's fit to slant."

WSJ was officailly reduced to fish wrapper when the Murdoch Propaganda Empire took it over.

4. Well, it was Rupert Murdoch's daughter who fucked up Australia's Next Top Model
So getting things wrong is apparently a family trait.

5. Reporting used to be good even though Ed page sucked.
Now it all sucks, and they're losing top reporters to the NYT.

They're going to lose the battle and the war.

6. historically, wsj reporting has been excellent and not overly biased
it's the infamous op-ed page that's insanely tilted with right-wing bias and lies. the rest of the paper traditionally has been very solid. investors and businesspeople actually want good facts and information.

i've not paid much attention to it since rupert palpatine murdoch took it over. it would be a great loss if the right-wing bias spread from the op-en page to the rest of the paper.

9. I believe the story. I think this is a trial balloon.
I honestly believe the reporter got the scoop at a McDonald's HR meeting where this was discussed and it was let out as a trial balloon. WSJ reporters may have a Rethug bias but their facts are usually correct imho.

McDonald's has no incentive to carry these kinds of health insurance policies (anymore with HCR). In 2014 everyone will be mandated to purchase it, and health insurance companies will be mandated to sell it to us. Why would any company stay in the business of offering health insurance? It's costly, it's time consuming, it's not profitable. HCR gives them the perfect "out".
