He's been one of the chief instigators in pushing Obama to try to negotiate with the Repigs.

12. I don't mind a dickhead,
actually I'd prefer a dickhead in that position. The distinct difference is he has to be a dickhead that represents the democratic wing of the Democrat party ;)

Got a link to that DLC appointment? Or are we just going to start making shit up to be angry with this administration over? Oh, wait... I guess "start" is a poor choice of words.

38. Here's not so breaking news: Rahm's behavior has contirubuted to the chances of Freeper candidates
winning en masse come November.

And the likelihood of Obama appointing someone with more progressive leanings is highly unlikely.

If 538's current projections hold, Rahm & Co. should be receiving some thank you letters from them.

41. He also had a major role in the 1994 debacle
which if Nate Silver's correct, may end up putting him in the strategic "inner circle" of both of the most devastating Democratic losses of 80 years.

Of course, as the Big Dog himself suggested here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/09/19/ftn/main6881548.shtml

Losing the House could well increase Obama's chances of reelection in 2012, so it could be that's consideration for some of the more ardent supporters and "hippy punchers."

I've seen people hold much stranger notions and motivations than that over the years.

so we're all saying goodbye and good riddance. He was a fucking retarded choice and maybe, just maybe, someone less mercenary will be appointed. Not likely but a girl can hope.

I've never liked the idea of the Obama Oval Office having a DLC gatekeeper. This will energize the base ten times over. And, incidentally, why would he make a good mayor?

Everyone notice the President targeting the Republican Tea Party more directly of late?

I don't think it's coincidence.

No love here for Emanuel, but to assume that a new person in that critical position is a panacea is naive. Fingers crossed for an improvement.

47. Several thoughts.
Thought the first: Rahm Emanuel isn't likely to win the mayoral bid. He's a big cheese in Washington, but he's been away a while. There are a lot of locals with ambitions to equal Emanuel's, and they've been here doing ground work for years.

Thought the second: Rahm Emanuel was never interested in making friends. He has a political style which can most kindly be described as "vicious." Again, this may well be successful in DC politics, but won't lead to a lot of local support.

Thought the third: even if the President's new CoS is not of the left, if he or she is at least a nicer person; for example, not given to attacking anyone who disagrees; it has to be an improvement for the nation.

Last thought: any way we can arrange for the White House door to hit Rahm Emanuel in the ass on the way out?

49. As much as I'm...
... pleased that this little jerk is leaving, I'll hold my applause until I see a real difference in how this Administration starts addressing the issues that affect those of us that have been shit on, so far. I'm guessing, now that they have let the iron get ice cold, they will pretend that,"We are trying to strike, but damn, you 'fucking retarded' lybrals let us down on election day. Sorry, we can't do anything now."
