We wanted Rahm Emanuel out and now he is out |
|
and Larry Summers is leaving too.
I think we are being heard now, even if the White House doesn't want to admit it.

the snip on this person sounded pretty good.

12. At this point, I doubt it matters |

Rahm Emanuel was too good a DLC player, making sure the White House message was his message by controlling both access to the president and making sure the guy in the next office, Press Secretary Gibbs, stayed on message. His replacement, even if another DLC drone, is likely to be a lot less effective, less of a heavy hitter.
Of all the staff members I wanted gone, he headed the list, far ahead of all the Golden Sacks wonks giving bad financial advice. Having one of those wonks departing at the same time is just icing on the cake.

21. She's in until the department is set up. |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-30-10 12:16 PM by Marr
If she's invited to lead the department, I will be surprised. Her "kind of, temporary" nod makes me think the Obama Administration was tossing a bone to it's disillusioned base ahead of the elections, with a little string attached to it so they can yank it back later.
I would love to be wrong, but I'd bet you cash money that I'm not.

I'm sure the constant bitching on the tubes isx what brought this about, it has nothing to do with his personal ambition.

on Wiki, and he sounds pretty good. Not our dream progressive, but definitely an improvement and a bit improvement!

10. I doubt we had anything to do with it. |
|
People move on from these jobs. Don't forget that Rahm had to give up a a perfectly good elected position in the House to join Obama's staff (Rahm was the 4th-highest ranking D in the House at the time). He's probably burned out and wants to get out of DC. But he wants to stay in politics, so he's running for mayor.
Thinking that progressive voices had anything to do with Rahm moving on is a bit delusional.

18. I think we had SOME influence. He's always saying that his "base" is mad at him, |
|
he knows what we're feeling and saying and he HAS to listen. For himself and for the Dem party, he can't afford to piss off more voters. And I find that encouraging.
And, I think that maybe in hearing our voices he may have wanted to move in different directions, and Rahm, et al, didn't want to go there. So

I'll be convinced that the President's approach is changing when I see who replaces these figures, and how he acts after the election.
