Eyeglasses for the Immigration debate...
Wear these when you watch the talking heads. Be especially wary of phrases like "Most Americans favor a route to citizenship for those who want to contribute to the economy".

There are two basic kinds of jobs; those that require considerable training +/or education, and those that don't. There are two kinds of workforces; those that can command decent wages and working conditions and those that can't.

The unifying themes and conditions of the bill that appeals to "both sides of the aisle" are those that facilitate the filling of both kinds of jobs with the latter kind of workforce.

Once you don these glasses, all the other parts of the argument (race, crime, "fairness", culture ,etc etc etc) don't seem to make much difference, do they? At least not to the people crafting the legislation.

1. That surprises you how? Thats been the way it has been going for all workers legal illegal and born
here since Reagan started his war on the working man. We seen a slight improvement under Clinton, but then Bill didn't change a lot of what Reagan and papa Bush took out or "fixed. For one thing Clinton didn't put the regulations that Reagan deregulated. He also made the mistake of signing the NAFTA agreement, though we all know that the republican congress presured him into signing it and they had the votes needed to over ride a veto.

2. I have many pairs of old glasses lying around the house. Why don't we start sending them to Reid
in protest that we have not been allowed to Read the bill? or to suggest that THEY READ THE BILL BEFORE THEY VOTE. Huge campaign, Senate flooded with pairs of glasses would get attention. No more legislation passed when they don't even know what's in it!!!!!!!!!

4. Yes! My understanding is that the bill was actually written....
by aides. (I believe I heard that on the Ed Shultz program.)

So, I question whether or not all of the Senators will actually read the bill themselves.

The public should be given the opportunity, as well.

3. The bill needs to be published at least a month before it is going to be
debated in Washington. And the American people need to organize and form committes to analyze the bill. A people's committee, no blue ribbon panels consisting of the Chamber of Commerce and corporate USA.
