There's tons of stories like this from the time period, mostly from foreign media outlets since the US media seems to not care much about African affairs at all.

Of course the most common mistake is lumping African countries and people together -- Africa's unbelievably diverse and complex in every way. Still, Bush was liked in a lot of quarters there.

I believe Bush gave more money to Africa than any other POTUS. AIDs research and treatment as well. Always mystified me.

sent. Last I heard it was something like 15% of the promised amount (though I admit I didn't keep up on it).
