Santa Fe PD Looking Into Recruiting Mexican Nationals
http://www.koat.com/news/13332704/detail.html?rss=alb&psp=news

SANTA FE, N.M. -- The Santa Fe Police Department is having trouble filling police jobs, so it is looking into the possibility of recruiting Mexican nationals.

Sergeants Gillian Alessio and Marvin Paulk are in charge of the department's recruiting and training.

They said on Tuesday that they're trying to think of alternative methods of filling 20 vacancies on the city's 155-person police force.

But Santa Fe Police Chief Eric Johnson said New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy regulations prohibit non-citizens from serving as police officers.
(I wonder if there are provisions in the Immigration Bill for this)

Alessio said the Santa Fe police force, like others around the country, is vying to recruit the same 21- to 30-year-olds as the U.S. military.

Alessio said the national need for military recruits is taking a toll on the police department.

7. They can't find fifty people in the who friggin' state who would want those
jobs? Who the f**k are they asking? Are they going to the local colleges? Talking to the kids who are taking criminal justice courses? Are they going to employment agencies?

Not fifty people in the entire state who wants to take those jobs?

2. They should look to Southern Oregon counties who have just had
to cut nearly all of their county police forces. Seriously, several southern Oregon counties won't even be looking at meth because they simply no longer have the resources.

They have tons of eligible officers ready for new jobs. The property tax measures failed on Tuesday in many counties, as residents weren't willing to pay for services that had previously been paid for with Federal timber assistance.

Two Santa Fe officers arrested

Two Santa Fe police officers are accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a drug dealer.

FBI agents arrested Sgt. Steve Altonji and Danny Ramirez on Thursday. They face a combined 24 counts, according to their federal indictments.

Investigators say the two officers arrested a drug dealer in May 2006 and discovered marijuana, cocaine and at least $180,000 in the suspect's home. The FBI says the police officers kept about $5,000 of the suspected drug money. Ramirez’ attorney says the accusations are false.

“That’s the allegations and it’s based on the word apparently of a drug dealer,” said defense attorney Jason Bowles. “So we’re going to fight it hard, and I can’t wait for the trial to be set.”
