A Pakistani man detained over the murder of US journalist Daniel Pearl has died weeks after being released.

Saud Memon owned the property in the city of Karachi where Pearl's body was found after his kidnap in 2002.

Mr Memon's family say he disappeared in 2003 and was held in Guantanamo Bay before being dumped by unidentified men outside his Karachi home last month.

They deny he had anything to do with the murder. Doctors say Mr Memon died of tuberculosis and meningitis.

Mr Memon's family say he was in extremely bad health when he was returned to them, weighing just 18kg (44 pounds). He was also suffering psychiatric problems, they say.

1. god forgive us
What a cruel society we are, they don't hate us for our freedoms, they hate us for lack of humanity.

Rest in peace Mr. Memon, if there is a god/goddess, by whatever name you choose, may he/she give you the fair judgment and treatment our government denied you.

2. i'm glad
his suffering is over-

There are fates that are worse than death.

A 44 lb. adult man....suffering from meningitis and TB??? after being held hostage in Guantanamo?-

At least Daniel Pearle wasn't tortured to death over 4yrs time.-

humans are so incredibly cruel

3. ...I can't believe the 44 pounds part offhand.
I can't see how someone could be still alive at that weight.

7. You're serious? 44 pounds?
I'd thought people were on death's door at far heavier weights.

Not like I'll know the truth of the matter either way. The US sure won't be telling what condition the guy was really in, no matter what the exact figures were.
