Conservative Immigration Group: Arrest Meg Whitman, And Her Housekeeper Too
Ryan J. Reilly | September 30, 2010, 5:32PM

A conservative group against illegal immigration has called for the arrest of Meg Whitman, the GOP's candidate for governor of California, and her former housekeeper Nicky Diaz for breaking immigration laws. The Americans for Legal Immigration PAC said Thursday that Whitman should stand trial and Diaz should be deported.

"It's pretty clear from all parties involved that Whitman did intentionally or unintentionally hire an illegal immigrant for nine years, which is a violation of federal law," William Gheen, president and spokesman of ALIPAC told TPMMuckraker in an interview Thursday.

"To allow Whitman to avoid a trial on this matter would be the same as allowing O.J. Simpson to avoid trial because he said he didn't do it before he was arrested," Gheen said.

Diaz alleged in a high-profile press conference on Wednesday that Whitman knew about her immigration status and that she was fired last summer because she would have been a political liability. But on Thursday, her lawyer provided a 2003 government document raising red flags about the Social Security number Diaz was using which appears to have been written on by Whitman's husband.

UPDATE:
*** Couldn't be worse timing: This is all coming at a horrible time for Whitman. In fact, tomorrow is the Brown-Whitman Univision debate, where this entire story will play a BIG role and where plenty of California Latinos will be watching. This is already a three-day story. Will we still be talking about this on Monday? If so, that's a problem for the Whitman campaign. One other thing worth noting: This story has been driven by TV more than print.

1. There is an error in that.
It is politically motivated, or they would be saying arrest her husband, not her.

We should not have political prosecutions for election gains. That sounds a bit like targeted justice.

2. Are you saying Whitman filed a separate tax return rather than joint with her husband?

5. The law doesn't call for that for either of them.
The housekeeper's punishment is to be sent back across the border and that NutMeg and her husband should pay a fine. But there is no provision in the laws for imprisonment for either party. Why don't these conservatives try to get their facts in order first?
