So...Will Rahm Be Expecting The Support Of Unions & Activists In His Primary For Mayor? |
|
This should be interesting because he will need both to win.

3. I just saw a report in which |
|
several Democratic Alderman (I'm not even sure what that is) -- presumably activists within the party -- aren't exactly embracing him with open arms. They seem to think he's got all this big money from the corps (he does) and that he seems to have a sense of entitlement for the job. Chicagoans: Weigh in here for this Left Coaster.

I wonder if that's true and would also like Chicagoans to weight in on that too.

You can bookmark this thread and take that to the bank.
Aldermen posture for later goodies. That's a given.

9. Rahms Visions Of Grandeur |
|
Rahm is no Rich Daley and everyone in Chicago knows it. To the corporate media and others who aren't atuned to Chicago Rahm's just one of many who will be going for this job. There's already one whacked out black preacher (he's on the Christine O'Donnell level) whose declared and I expect a bunch more will file, including one or several black candidates, a hispanic and a bunch of alderman and ward bosses. There's no clear front-runner or heir apparent (no, Rahm's not that) and the primaries could be reminiscent of the 80s battles that brought Harold Washington to the fore.
I wouldn't be surprised if the unions sit out the primary...and the activists will gravitate to the candidate that deals with their community and/or special interest. Rahm's not a household name in these parts and his only experience is representing the 5th Congressional District...the guy he proceeded is also a well known celebrity...Blago. Methinks that connection could hurt him more than help him.
