2. For those who haven't heard of it, it's a decriminalization and taxation of marijuana

3. Oh, fine, get technical on me.
 Seriously, I got so excited about his when I saw it I sort of forgot to fill everybody in on what Prop. 19 is -- I keep assuming everyone already knew. :hi:

9. It does have around 90% voter recognition

which is phenomenal.

I read that these sorts of initiatives typically lose ground on the run up to an election - this one is gaining ground at this point. Historically, anything that does not poll over 50% does not fare well.

It will be a great and historic day across America if this passes.

Legalization will be a true blow to those who oppose individual liberty and personal freedom.

5. I wouldn't get your hope up. I have no doubt if it wins, someone will say it violates Federal law
and cannot be done. This will be in the courts

Look what they did with Embryonic Stem Cell research funding, and even Prop 8, both are tied up in the court

7. There are 6 more states working on wording
for achieving the same thing. If we pull this off, the genie will be out of the bottle and, with the mood of the populace, I can't see where fighting the Will of the People is going to go over well. The fact is that marijuana is pretty much de facto legal here anyway. Need a doctor to issue you a medical marijuana license? Throw a rock. Municipalities are trying to stem the tide but it's a losing battle and, with so few resources, they're finding it harder and harder to justify busting users/growers while meth heads are killing each other for a $10.00 hit.

10. Oregon in 2011. Washington State too, probably
also Mexico is watching this closely and legalization will help with the desire of the leaders of that nation to legalize and stop the cartel wars.

this is no diff. than prohibition of alcohol.

the crime will stop when criminals are not the purveyors of the substance, no matter what it is.

17. Of course it violates federal law. There's that whole 10th amendment, read it?

18. It is not the job of the state to enforce federal law.
The ideal course of action is for California to pass Proposition 19 and then to not regulate cannabis in any way. If they decide to tax or regulate cannabis, then they generate records which can be subpoenaed by the federal government.

20. They can do it like cannabis tax stamps are done now; bring it in, let it get weighed
pay the tax with cash, get a cash receipt. There are, in theory, no penalties for doing so and no records of doing so in the cannabis tax stamp states. Then you end with a simple ledger, and if the federal government (again, look to the 10th Amendment) want it, let them see how much tax revenue cannabisijuana brings in.

13. Its too bad most of the mainstream democrats oppose it.
I guess this goes to show change comes from the ground up, and not from politicians who are behind the times.

But with poll results like this, I'm sure October will be filled to the brim with anti-19 scare ads on TV either wailing about how our streets will be littered with the victims of stoned drivers, or we'll get ads about how "poorly written" the proposition is. Let's hope the pro-19 people put out smarter ads to counter.
