Of course, we all know it's YOU who's trying to manufacture a controversy that wasn't there to begin with. Typical of you, Stinky.

62. A total quote of the OP:
"Rouse was Chief of Staff to Republican Lt Governor Miller of Alaska in early 80's

I must not be able to read the part where someone calls someone scum.

What I'm doing is asking everybody who made more of the OP than was stated IN the OP to explain their perspective . . . or motive.

8. Most of Rouse's service was with Democrats, specifically Tom Daschle. 30+ years ago he worked with
republicans. 30+ years ago the republicans are NOT what they are today

So do we judge him from 30+ years ago, or from since he became a Democrat

It was way back when, as a native Oklahoman, and probably in that same time frame. Although I can't find much to back that up, I know I read it. (Scrubbed from Wiki?) So, you're right, how far back do we go for the purity test? Hillary was also a Republican in her youth, BTW. So, why the double standard for Rouse?

why even waste time on Rouse? It would be far more effective to dig into President Obama's writings as a child to see if he harbored thoughts of being a DLC Republican sellout. It would confirm the worst and put to rest the notion that anyone he hires will ever be competent let alone supportive of the Democratic agenda.

already lamenting over the fact this guy used to be a republican and he has not stepped foot into office.

Seems you have posted many times and corrected quite a few posters on this thread. Ever thought of being a mod since you like to police everyone's posts? You should try it....

74. No one would trust me as a mod. I am too opinionated.
I'll stop there.

86. Saying you wish to alert on a post is against DU rules
Do not say that you are hitting the alert link to report another member. You are permitted to tell someone that you are adding them to your ignore list, provided that you actually do so.

As for my post, please do what you think is best, I will let the mods make those decisions.

95. So an Innuendo to say my post might be alertable is somehow
different. And by the way this entire ST will be deleted shortly, so respond quick.

76. I think you're a bit unclear on the "progressive spirit"
Poor people deserve a chance. Workers deserve a chance. Single mothers deserve a chance. Drug offenders deserve a chance.

Politicians deserve nothing from us by default. If they do their jobs, we should praise them. If they don't we should criticize them. But nobody gets free pass.

At this point, Obama's record of appointing conventional, establishment politicos is undeniable. People are right to look at Rouse's record and express their concerns.

79. I think progressives give everyone a chance. You are trying to
make him responsible for Obama's record. I will be the first to call foul if this guy is not doing the job, but at least let him start to do the job.

Over the years many people have crossed party lines and this was in 1983 over 20 years ago and I think he deserves a chance like any other party member. It is a shame you don't.

82. What do you consider "a chance"?
Should we all observe a period of silence when a new appointment is announced? How long do you think it should last?

If you're like me, you never heard of this guy until yesterday. Any information -- positive or negative -- is most welcome.

84. I will withhold my judgment until I see if he can make any
difference and do a better job than the last guy. I can only hope, and I want to see some good in something, so I try to stay positive and hope this guy will be what we need right now.

87. Just for the sake of context...
Rouse has family roots in Alaska, and that was basically his first leg up position. Every position he has taken in the interval have been for Democrats. I offer that he is a good choice because at this juncture, the Senate is the glitch in the giddy up, and Rouse is an expert on the Senate. I think his skills will serve the President well.
Other than that, I really don't know much about him. He sure seems like a hard core Democrat to me.

96. Well there ya go
And in the absence of that context, so many in this thread made up their own context and ascribed motives to the OP that now seem to have been unfounded.

Which is what my point was in most of my initial responses to many people in this thread. My follow-up responses, not so much.

:)
