Apologies to Hawaii and Alaska.

3. In the grand scheme - it will be the same
Down the road - who knows?

But in the grand long term way, it will survive

8. It'll survive just like Rome
Yeah, Rome is still around but doesn't have as much clout as she once wielded.

Check out Sorrows of Empire to see what historian Chalmers Johnson sees as a probable future for the U.S. empire.

5. Declined under Bush admin: we're digging our way out now.
You should have asked your question around, say, 2004 or 5.

6. Those Bush years were the rock f*cking bottom.
And I thought the Raygun years were a horror.

9. It started in the Reagan years, and hasn't stopped since.
30 years of decline. The 90's were not an exception, nor is there one now.

7. Declining - along with the rest of the industrial growth paradigm
that's going to destroy the Earth as a hospitable environment...

Unless it's stopped...

Soon!

Come on folks.

Power down for happier, more fulfilling lives instead of "life styles" -- More leisure time instead of leisure wear...

10. I wonder what would have happened to the "Holy" Roman Empire
if they had the ridiculous firepower we have.

11. We are Rome at the height of her powers.
When tribute from the provinces starts to decline, so shall we.

13. At the moment, the North American Plate is all but stationary, so
the United States isn't moving much. The Pacific Plate is moving northward, though, so parts of California are shifting to the North. Sea level's, however, are rising, so, in relation to sea level, the US is sinking just a bit, even though it is the ocean that is rising.
