Rick Sanchez fired
I might be the last person on DU to know this happened though I expected it.

War Room
Rick Sanchez fired
By Alex Pareene

That was fast. CNN just waited until 6 pm eastern to fire Rick "CNN's Second-Dumbest Anchor" Sanchez. CNN will pay morons to read Tweets on-air, but they won't employ morons who semi-coherently express resentful antisemitic comments on satellite radio.

Here is CNN's brief statement:

“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.“

Ouch. Rick should just lay low for a while before seeking out a new cable news gig. The good news for him is that Pat Buchanan can't live forever. :spray:

1. I take exception to your last sentence...
These guys live to 106...Strom and the ilk seem to have unusually long life-spans and small planes don't seem to affect them much.

2. It was bound to happen.

Too bad that other insidious reporters and anchors won't get canned as quickly.

(Katie, Mika, Pat and Joe would be cool beans, y'know.)

3. Now That Didn't Take Long...
I knew that one day Sanchez would talk first and think later...a habit that's cost him jobs in the past. He hit the double-header...anti-semetism and calling out your bosses. Dumb...just plain dumb. Personally I think he's a fairly straight up dude...I think he'll end up on the hate radio circuit. No he's no wingnut but that's about all that's left for him. I doubt faux will pick him up...they're mean, he's dumb...not a good match. Also while they're anti almost everything, faux is very Pro Israel and doesn't tolerate anti-semites. Here's a real shot-in-the-dark...I could see Sanchez end up on Progressive talk.

The difference between Sanchez and pitchfork Pat is one was supposedly a "reporter"...in theory not supposed to speak opinions while Pat is a hired bomb-thrower that obviously draws some viewers and/or is there to be made a punching bag. When Sanchez spoke he did so as a representative of the network and that's where he went one bridge too far and my bets are the cause of termination was not what he said as much as him embarassing the network (like they can't do that all by themselves).

Chicken Noodle Nuze has become a parody of a news channel. They're always playing with new whiz-bang toys or reading twits (or is that twits reading twits?)...lite on substance and loaded with "conventional wisdom". I laughed on night when I saw them gathering all their talking heads...musta been 15 who all had to have their "say"...and then after a commercial break they had another 15 out there doing the same thing. My late father aptly defined this as verbal masturbation.

6. I know, they made fast work of him; couldn't take that criticism,
though he definitely went over the line. We all have our breaking points, but maybe he should have thought before he opened his yapper.

4. CNN's statement - an interpretation:
"We finally had a good enough reason (beyond his normal stupidity) to fire Rick Sanchez. We thank Rick for willing to be tazered on air and providing us with a clip everyone can loop endlessly and we wish him well unless he gets hired by Fox News; in that case, we wish he'll be eaten by O'Reilly's pet shark."
