Bill seeks to create gov internet site blacklist.
S. 3804: Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=s111-3804

Mr. LEAHY (for himself, Mr. HATCH, Ms. KLOBUCHAR, Mr. WHITEHOUSE, Mr. SCHUMER, Mr. KOHL, Mr. SPECTER, Mr. DURBIN, Mr. BAYH, Mr. VOINOVICH, and Mrs. FEINSTEIN) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

Call and write. The gov should never control the internet at that level.

1. "The gov should never control the internet at that level."
Without collusion of the providers, they won't be able to.

But we know they've got the support of the corporations.

10. And Henry didn't give them much of an option when he asked the FCC to regulate...
the IPs as they do telecom.

Kind'a short-circuits the whole debate - but only as long as we have allies running the FCC. The (R)s would figure out how to fuck it up completely in a single day (then wonder why and complain when their apps stopped working).

6. did you sign the petition?
Great news! The messages you and others sent to members of the Senate Judiciary Committee this week asking them to postpone the scheduled markup of the "Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act" (COICA) worked! The Senate adjourned for its October recess without moving the bill out of committee, giving us more time to remind legislators why any bill that interferes with the infrastructure of the Internet for purposes of censorship is not acceptable.

Even as we celebrate, we know this proposal will be back when Congress returns next year. Website blocking is high on the entertainment industry's wishlist, and we'll need your help again to stop this in its tracks. Stay tuned to EFF.org for more actions you can take to protect your digital civil liberties!
