'One Nation Working Together' - lots of pics
Edited on Sat Oct-02-10 02:46 PM by Kadie

Thousands of activists attend the 'One Nation Working Together' rally on the National Mall between the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument in Washington on October 2, 2010. The protest, bringing together hundreds of predominately-liberal groups that support the Democrats, focuses on civil rights, labor and economic policies and education reform, and serves in part of as a counter-rally to conservative commentator Glenn Beck's rally in August.

WASHINGTON - OCTOBER 2: Liberal television and radio host Ed Schultz speaks during the One Nation march on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on October 2, 2010 in Washington, DC. Thousands of people gathered at the Lincoln Memorial for a march to call for One Nation Working Together that featured civil rights leaders, labor leaders, environmental and peace activists, faith leaders and celebrities with the intent of voicing concerns on jobs, for justice, immigration reform and for education for all.

Can't risk having racist, offensive signs, or spoiling the fiction that his rally was nonpolitical.

For 'baggers, freedom = authoritarian control.

24. Look at the signs, and look at the message on the signs and
you see the difference between the tea bags and the republicans led by scum like Beck and Palin and the real Americans, led by every freedom country loving American.

We show the tea bags and republicans every single day the difference between honor to our country, respect for our president and the American way of life. Which is for the PEOPLE AND NOT CORPORATIONS.

The tea bags and republicans will never get it, they don't have it in them to love this country, and love it's people and the diversity that makes up this country. All they see is the rich and white.

I am proud to be a Democrat I am proud to love this country and I am proud of the people at the rally today who showed those who couldn't show up just what it means to be a real American. And that they will fight to keep America strong and our congress free.

how the Flying Monkeys Media covered it.

We only watch the local news here, and no cable, so I only know about anything from you guys.
Oh yeah, and also from the headlines on Yahoo's home page (barf, but that's my email.) I notice our March is conspicuously absent....

I know from you all that the *other* event got top billing 24/7..... so I'm looking to see what the story is on OUR MARCH!

72. I went and I brought my son
We didn't get home until about 4 am. We had many transportation troubles so we didn't arrive until around 2pm. My son feels kind of cheated out of the rally but he met a bunch of friends and we were at the rally for about 1.5 hours before we had to leave. Our bus had 2 flats on the way down and the second one was about 1.5hr outside DC and we were stuck there for a few hours. I think I'm taking other transport to the next rally. Next rally? Oh yes, I'm an addict for rallies now. I think we really need to show up at these things whenever we can. We should have showed up in force at the town halls last summer.

Oh, now my son wants to join SDS.

38. Relevant documentary: "Class Dismissed"
Class Dismissed
How TV Frames the Working Class
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVu6ojB-cMg&NR=1

Narrated by Ed Asner

Based on the forthcoming book by Pepi Leistyna, Class Dismissed navigates the steady stream of narrow working class representations from American television's beginnings to today's sitcoms, reality shows, police dramas, and daytime talk shows.

Featuring interviews with media analysts and cultural historians, this documentary examines the patterns inherent in TV's disturbing depictions of working class people as either clowns or social deviants -- stereotypical portrayals that reinforce the myth of meritocracy.

Class Dismissed breaks important new ground in exploring the ways in which race, gender, and sexuality intersect with class, offering a more complex reading of television's often one-dimensional representations. The video also links television portrayals to negative cultural attitudes and public policies that directly affect the lives of working class people.

43. Beck tried to stop this rally! His plea was stopped in court. From LA Times
A request to stop the One Nation rally was rejected by a Washington D.C. judge on Friday, according to Denise Gray-Felder, spokeswomen for. The request was filed by National Events, one of the companies that helped organized the Beck rally.

Beck has criticized the liberal response, in part because he said it includes members of socialist groups. Terry Cardwell, 56 of Rome, N.Y., said she viewed the Beck rally as a "white revival," and on Saturday she carried a sign that read, "Fear of diversity makes a bitter cup of tea."

60. Wish I Were There
Wish I could have been there today. Progressive organizers
should have
had rallies/marches in EVERY major city across America.

So those people who are unemployed, underemployed, part-time
employed,
working full time but can't afford the time or money to go to
D.C.,
could have had their voices heard.

Progressives need to get louder and louder and DEMAND that our

politicians listen to what the people want:JOBS, UNIVERSAL
HEALTH CARE, STOP THE WAR, PROSECUTE BUSH/CHENEY, PROSECUTE
WALL
STREET BANKERS AND GET OUR MONEY BACK from Wall Street AND all

those CROOKED contractors who worked in Iraq(Halliburtton,
KBR,etc).

Progressives(like Rep.Alan Greyson of Florida)should call
these Republicans
out on EACH AND EVERY LIE that they tell. Maybe then the
Democrats will grow
a BACKBONE.

We need to say OVER AND OVER again that it was the Bush/Cheney
administration
that has ruined our country and caused this DEPRESSION.

EVERYONE in this country should know that it was the
REPUBLICANS that
have gotten us into this mess, and it's the DEMOCRATS JOB to
be the
one to tell.

61. Now, I ask you- Isn't THIS what American voters look like?
What a damn difference to look at the numbers here at the mall, the original thought process, the signs meaningfully written with intelligence!

You bet our asses aren't covered. What a great rally. It makes me proud and provides encouragement.

62. I hope it's okay to add some of my own pics of the rally
didn't feel free, really, to start a whole new thread.

65. more!
i want more. love the signs. i'm contemplating the sign i want to take when i go on the 30th. i actually saw a picture, possibly on USA today, which sported one of the quotes i have been considering: A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom. 66. The most powerful image, right here:

The blocking is perfect. All the necessary elements are there, not a one wasted, and that message just says it ALL! WONDERFUL image!

OOP! But we can't ignore this one!

I ALWAYS look for at least one long shot like this whenever they're talking up a rally. THIS is the sort of picture that tells you there was a RALLY!

Anyone got a long shot like this of that Beck'n'Palin-a-Loozah? If so, I missed it.

I want to thank all the participants in the One Nation Rally. You represented the thousands of us that couldn't attend.

71. Just curious? How much air time did this event get?
Every time the teabaggers even go to the bathroom, all the networks are right there covering the event. I am curious as to how much air time this event received?
