Elderly drunken Yalie at Yale football game today...
crashed (literally) our little tail gate group outside the Yale Bowl during the Yale-Albany game. He just wandered in and nearly overturned our food table. Both cops and EMTs came over and questioned him, but he was too drunk to talk or walk. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital to detox.

I kept wondering what would have happened if this guy was some old geezer in ratty clothes and a dirty hair. Or black. I hope he would have been treated the same as this man, but I wonder...

It's amazing: expensive slacks with a sharp crease, expensive leather loafers and a dark blue sweater with a Yale insignia made all the difference. I'm further amazed that he wasn't charged with public intoxication and he was quietly led away to the EMT van. I'm glad he wasn't treated badly because he clearly needed help but I hope any of our city's poor with similar problems would have received such humane treatment...

At any rate, Yale lost...

4. Could have been. He had a slight smile on his face and wasn't making too much sense.
He said he lived alone but somebody must have been looking out for him. You don't dress that neatly and that well without some help...

5. Totally distressing, isn't it?
How EVER will we beat Harvard if we keep this up?

My smelling salts, please, I'm having a sinking spell...

7. Portal 25. PM me if you'd like an invite to our tailgate at the next Yale home game!
I'm serious...let me know. Hubby is one of the organizers and we have a great group!

Of course, I realize that's hard if you have to work...but maybe you won't for one of the games. The Harvard game is away this year but Princeton is at the Bowl. It's always kinda fun...

but I normally don't go in until the afternoon so maybe I could come to tailgate for a bit and then head off to work! :)

9. Could have been a diabetic with low blood sugar
I saw a man once who was stumbling all over the place. I was sure he was drunk as a skunk, turned out his blood sugar was low, and he just needed to eat something. Luckily, somebody else realized what his problem was.

12. Could be a combination. This guy had been drinking, tho.
The EMTs confirmed his blood alcohol level, anyhow, so that was a settled issue.

He was a gentle soul. I felt sorry for him but when I looked at him I just wondered...what if he were poor?

40. Not sure. I had been in the Bowl watching the game and when I came out he was surrounded
by them. So I just picked up on what was already ongoing.

The EMT's have a van at the Bowl at the ready and were there pretty quick when alerted by the PD. They were all very nice and low key...I was surprised to see them...I hadn't seen an occasion like that at the Bowl before, altho it shouldn't have shocked me...

31. Well, the WORST I ever saw was at Yale: G.W.Bush's honorary degree in 2002 or 2003
I forget which. I had just returned from my stepson's fabulous graduation from Tulane and returned to see W get his honor at Yale...I could have thrown up!

I'm sure your son's was lovely, tho. I fondly remember one where the Forestry School grads wore broccoli on their caps when G.H.W.Bush spoke at the graduation ceremony...

22. He looked like he might have been in Jonathan BUsh's class.
"Jonny" Bush took up residence in New Haven after his bro won in 2001. Same general "look" as this guy...kinda patrician, thin and lanky, and definitely wearing good, understated clothes...

28. Could it have been Mr. Burns?
Then Smithers would have been close behind to pick up the pieces. Whenever Yale football comes up I always think of Mr Burns in his fur coat.

Can you believe the Yale v. Harvard game last year? I still haven't gotten over it. I'm a Morsel '81.:hi:

29. College #3 has now chimed in with Morse! Can I hear from a Jonathan Edwards?
And don't talk to me about the effing Harvard game last year...my ex husband was an H man (or a "cantab" as he calls himself on occasion). I dread running into him at Thanksgiving every year, even briefly...he likes to hum "10,000 men of Harvard" at me. I'm thinking of a grand retaliation scheme now...hopefully, Yale will win...

35. I wanted to be more artful...
Our son is wishing to have a child now with his new wife. I am joyful at the idea, however, I think I have a lovely name if they have a boy is...Elias (or Elijah).

That way, my ex would forever have an grandson named "Eli."

Just one of my little fantasies about how to really "get" a Harvard man. What do you think?

36. It really wouldn't surprise me but I think an ex-prez would have more protection
and wouldn't be allowed to wandered around and crash tailgate parties. But he was an older guy and very well dressed so he could be a former classmate of either GW Bush or more likely his older brother Jonathan...
