Here's to the Jerry Brown that I have admired for decades.
Today in the California gubernatorial debate, Jerry Brown spoke powerfully from the heart against the Wall Street diva, Whitman who is trying to buy the governorship of the state I love.

After Meg Whitman restated her opposition to any path to citizenship and even the Dream Act for children, which Jerry Brown of course supports, Whitman then tried to shift the argument and blame for immigration problems to the federal government calling for securing the border with Mexico.

Jerry Brown said he would treat all Californians equally "as God's children."

And then he ripped out Whitman's wicked heart and showed the world the human exploiter that she is:

Jerry Brown scolded Whitman: "You don't just bring in semi-serfs and say do our dirty work, and then we're finished with you like an orange and just throw it away. That's after you've squeezed it. That's not right!"

Here's the lyrics of the great Woody Guthrie's heartbreaking song "Deportees" and below that a photo of the great Jerry Brown with great Cesar Chavez. Do you remember when people stood for something? Well, some of us still do. And Jerry Brown is still fighting.

Plane Wreck At Los Gatos (Deportees) by Wood Guthrie

The crops are all in and the peaches are rott'ning
The oranges piled in their creosote dumps;
They're flying 'em back to the mexican border
To pay all their money to wade back again

Goodbye to my juan goodbye rosalita
Adios mis amigos jesus y maria;
You won't have your names when you ride the big airplane
All they will call you will be "deportees"

My father's own father he waded that river
They took all the money he made in his life;
My brothers and sisters come working the fruit trees
And they rode the truck till they took down and died.

Some of us are illegal and some are not wanted
Our work contract's out and we have to move on;
Six hundred miles to that mexican border
They chase us like outlaws like rustlers like thieves.

We died in your hills we died in your deserts
We died in your valleys and died on your plains.
We died 'neath your trees and we died in your bushes
Both sides of the river we died just the same.

5. Thanks David.
The feeling is mutual.

California sets the trend for our entire country. If Jerry can put them on the right track, then maybe we can put the rest of the country on the right track also. I am pulling for him.

Getting a Brown sign for my home tomorrow!

I cannot stand the way Meg Whitman looks down on Hispanics.

28. The beautiful fog of
San Francisco. When I moved to SF in '77, Jerry was my Governor. CA just didn't feel the same when he wasn't the Governor. I stayed in N. CA until '93.

Being in N. CA helped me survive those horrid years of raygun, and papa. I was surrounded with fellow progressives and we endured.

Jerry Brown is a man of honor, integrity and love.

CA is the trend setter....let him lead us back to justice, equality, and fairness.

7. Big K&R. I am pulling for Brown and for California.
Meg Whitman is horrible and its a sad state of affairs that people like Whitman and Fiorina and McMahon can come close to buying themselves a political office.

22. Thanks, Tatiana. We need Jerry at the helm of the state and Barbara Boxer in the US Senate.
And we need to legalize pot once and for all sending a shock to the rest of America that we are angry about locking up kids with violent offenders because of pot.

:)

34. Whitman doesn't scare me too much
At the very least we know she is a capable person even if we don't agree with her.

Fiorina destroyed the glory that was Hewlett Packard, a company that once valued the talents of its workers.

How can anybody think of letting her have responsibility in government?

11. Heartbreaking
Woody, Ceasar, Jerry...words fail me. To think of the blood, sweat, and tears that have been shed over the decades just in the hope that maybe some day we can achieve some kind of justice. And now, through ignorance and apathy, it is all being thrown away. Too sad.

"To think of the blood, sweat, and tears that have been shed over the decades" you write. We owe them. We honor them by picking up where they left off. Thanks for your words.

31. We do owe them.
My post was a little more negative than I intended. The heartbreaking part, though, is that many working class people don't know this history. We need more OPs like yours to remind them. Thanks for the great photo. I think it would be a great ad for Jerry to use in his campaign, especially for Hispanic audiences.

This immigrant thing was the last straw for her--she's sinking fast in the polls and this is just another hole in a boat hull that already was Swiss cheese.

We have to win this won for Jerry. Unlike so many others, he's earned my support. Thanks for the sweet words for President Carter, and of course, the first person I ever voted for: George McGovern.

29. George McGovern...
my first vote as well. When he lost to Nixon, I remember hearing these words in my head....'He won't last.' And he resigned in shame.

At that time, I thought we had made the world right. How wrong I was....in just a few years I was absolutely bowled over when a B-rated actor became prez. I had no idea how easily my fellow Americans could be manipulated.

Jimmy Carter...I still keep my thermostat at 68 degrees....usually 67 and I wear a sweater. I told someone that the other day and he laughed at me. After my response, I don't think he'll be laughing anymore.

36. Here are some lyrics I love about Brown
I consider Brown the lesser of two evils. Very descriptive lyrics follow:

--------------

I am Governor Jerry Brown
My aura smiles
And never frowns
Soon I will be president...

Carter Power will soon go away
I will be Fuhrer one day
I will command all of you
Your kids will meditate in school
Your kids will meditate in school!

California Uber Alles
California Uber Alles
Uber Alles California
Uber Alles California

Zen fascists will control you
100% natural
You will jog for the master race
And always wear the happy face

Close your eyes, can't happen here
Big Bro' on white horse is near
The hippies won't come back you say
Mellow out or you will pay
Mellow out or you will pay!

Now it is 1984
Knock-knock at your front door
It's the suede/denim secret police
They have come for your uncool niece

Come quietly to the camp
You'd look nice as a drawstring lamp
Don't you worry, it's only a shower
For your clothes here's a pretty flower.

DIE on organic poison gas
Serpent's egg's already hatched
You will croak, you little clown
When you mess with President Brown
When you mess with President Brown
