Whither Rick -- to Faux, the Teabaggers, or both or are they the same?!1
Rick's poor-little-me is that he is regarded as "second tier" for growing up poor and Hispanic by elite Libs. Where have we heard that gripe before, from Clarence THOMAS who claims his Affirmative Action degree from Yale was the kiss of death in getting hired, that Yale degrees for non-AA alums are Gold Cards. And from Ruben NAVARRETTE who said he was dogged by "whispers of Affirmative Action" at Harvard because nobody thought he could have been accepted on merit. NAVARRETTE went on to wreak vengeance on "Liberal White males" for deigning to act as his benefactors and both THOMAS and NAVARRETTE haven't ceased kissing Wingnut White males' asses in retaliation ever since.

Note to all three: (In Maury's reading of DNA results) You -----ARE---- the doltish clowns! O'LOOFAH has a degree(?) or credit-hours from Harvard and who thinks HE is an intellectual?!1 And, to Rick, the jokes and critiques of your performance was done treating you as a FULL EQUAL in the big time media game, just going by what you said and did, not by checking your ethnic and economic background first.

Actually, I've wondered for years how Rick has kept getting hired in big ticket media outlets over and over, while Aaron BROWN was banished not to be seen again?

1. I always thought that Sanchez, of ALL the CNN daytime staff
was less likely to parrot the beltway narrative. He had his blind spots, to be sure. but he beat Blitzer all around the barn for fairness..

2. Well, in recent years he was sounding good ideologically to me, but
Edited on Sat Oct-02-10 06:53 PM by UTUSN
he is embarrassing. And his defense against being lampooned doesn't sound like he's going to stay on my ideological side.

The Left or Dem umbrella consists of multiple groups, mostly only having in common being diminished, discriminated against, or perpetrated against. But none of us gets a free pass to commit junk based on our group's history.

SPITZER and William Jefferson are crumb-bums in my book and are not excused from their behaviors for their Dem label. Rick is a half-baked clown. His saying some ideologically correct things doesn't excuse him, and certainly not this last thing.

As for media types being political: I detest wingnuts like Candy CROWLEY. But I don't like reporters for their agreeing with me. I just want a level playing field from them. To great peril here, I've confessed to being irritated by Keith's and Rachel's STYLE of free-association verbosity, neverending sentences, sort of their Dennis MILLERishness in delivery. Frankly, I pretty much can't watch them or Ed. I'm really liking Lawrence O'DONNELL. Just because I agree with somebody it doesn't mean I'm going to block out anything negative about them. And it doesn't mean I like BLITZER or KING or whomever.

4. Beyond that COOPER bumped him out, I don't know specifics
It might have been the almightly bottom line of low ratings that had been building up against him for some time, and maybe they had been moving towards COOPER over time, but then COOPER made a splash with his emotional outburst during Katrina and BROWN was gone in a blink.

I don't remember whether it was Katrina, but there was *some* HUGH breaking story and BROWN was at a golf tournament and pretty much refused to leave the golf to cover the story or something to that effect.

I ain't saying BROWN was a paragon but he was a Peter JENNINGS protege, might have been old school to the point of being boring, but the contrast with Rick is between somebody with at least a solid facade and somebody with a clown facade (guess who is who).

The last I heard is that BROWN was a journalism prof somewhere, who knows whether he has to stay out of broadcasting because of the terminated contract, the way SHUSTER is cut off for a few more months.
