Another $25M Secretive Right Wing Front Organization Interferes with Political Airwaves
Edited on Sat Oct-02-10 06:24 PM by Land Shark
AS far as I know this is breaking news, certainly nobody at WBAL-TV knows who is behind the latest secretive right wing front organization to intervene on the political airwaves. (Only a few good google hits exist on the name. Here comes another...)

You've heard of the secretive Right wing front organization going after Rep. DeFazio - the so-called "Concerned Taxpayers of America". They've spent just under $200,000 there in Oregon, and close to $50K was disclosed September 30 to go against Maryland Congressman Frank Kratovil (D-MD).

Now comes another secretive front organization that says it's raising $25 million, from unnamed donors.

Take your Orwellian-pain pill now - the name of this "organization" is the "Commission on Hope, Growth and Opportunity" and it is airing their first ad in Maryland's 1st District -- also against Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD).

COMMISSION ON HOPE GROWTH AND OPPORTUNITY
(c/o WILLIAM B CANFIELD)1900 M ST NW STE 600
WASHINGTON, DC 20036-3519
Civic League (Economic Development) Formed: 08/2010

WBAL-TV shows a copy of the ad airing now in Maryland, reaching predictably low levels of Madisonian political discourse by using a chorus line with Obama and Pelosi's heads, among other things.

WBAL TV didn't know who was behind this latest secretive right wing front organization, formed just about a month ago. But, a mention in a September 24, 2010 Wall Street Journal article says it is Scott Reed, the strategist who managed Bob Dole's presidential campaign in 1996.

Scott Reed expects to raise $25 million to help "underfunded" Republican candidates regain control of the House.

Summary:
"Concerned Taxpayers of America" -- about $200,000 spent to date
"Commission on Hope, Growth and Opportunity" -- about as much but plans $25 million.
Maryland Congressman Kratovil a present target of both.

It's unlikely the money is "terrorist" or drug money. However, by using secretive run and gun tactics, secretive front organizations act very much like terrorists in seeking their political objectives via force or fraud without being at all responsible or accountable. One difference is that real terrorists usually claim responsibility and the donors of the secretive front organizations do not.

These right wing masters of the universe use secrecy to tell us the message they want us to hear more than anything else, especially Reps Defazio and Kratovil:

"No Back Talkin', Boy!"

The reason Citizens United got rid of the "blackout periods" before primary and general elections is so that corporations and their agents can get the last word, and we can't talk back (especially when they buy up most or all of the media time in the last weeks of the election).
