Hummer is dead !!
maybe old news but

....... But for the 2011 model year—thanks largely to the huge economic downturn that began in late 2008—four well-known American nameplates have gone the way of the Edsel, so to speak.

Of these four, the Hummer brand was the most short-lived. The original Hummer H1 (or Hum-Vee) was a celebrity of the Persian Gulf War. In 2002 came a smaller and (slightly) more manageable version, the Hummer H2. Exactly what made suburbanites decide they needed a four-wheeled facsimile of a machine-gun toting, troop-hauling war machine parked in their driveway is best left to future generations to explain. Perhaps the supersized and fuel-guzzling excess of the Hummer brand will someday look as quaint as towering tailfins from the late-1950s? Or perhaps not.............

1. I guess the chinese weren't buying.
GM had been hoping to sell the brand to a Chinese car company for a few years.

the upside is Hummers that were 60k a few years ago are selling for less than 20k used.

22. But we'll always have monster pickups!
Okay, I admit I was inspired by Rick in Casablanca ("We'll always have Paris").

Yes, some of us get it.

8. Hadn't Seen Any Around Until The Other Day...
I would joke how those things looked more like Brinks trucks than some badass killing machine...but then any vehicle in the hands of an asshat talking on a cellphone while flying at 60mph is a killing machine. The local Hummer dealer closed up over two years ago after gas soared past 3 dollars a gallon. I recall seeing a news report that many were dumped in the "cash for clunkers" deal...or were kept in the garage.

My bets are many owners got tired of being honked and flipped off as they drove that oversized boat around. The other night I had to do a double take...saw a Hummer...and sure enough the "owner" was yaking on the phone and puffing on a cigar. Some assholes just can't get enough.

15. Looks like my vehicle won't get around to rescuing these vehicles...
I drive a Jeep. Yes, it's a Liberty... but I can accurately call it a Hummer Rescue Vehicle.

And yes, I *need* the Jeep... remember that last quote from "Back To The Future"? "'Roads'? Where we are going, we don't need 'roads'". Where I go, there isn't a road at times, only a trail. My old Ford Focus would be completely stuck.

17. I understand. Not everyone lives on paved roads or in suburbia.
Some people really do need a different wheels/axle set-up and the ability to drive through other terrain.

20. Yes Hummer is dead, but so is Saturn unfortunatly
The one brand that they could have used to push future trends they let wither on the vine.

21. Perhaps the supersized and fuel-guzzling excess of the Hummer brand...
...looked and was truly vulgar from the outset.

And an embarrassing example of American excess and ignorance.

Such vehicles should have been regulated out of making it beyond the drawing board.

which must be hell to park in the small spaces of our condo carport.

When I get to know her (yes, her) better, I plan to ask her WTF?
