WTF?? Why is a Chris Dudly for Oregon Gov. AD on DU? He's a freaking Rathuglican!!
Dudley hasn't served a day in ANY elected office in his whole life. But the Republican machine is dumping LOT$$
of dough into the state to get this swarmy slick talker elected over John Kitzhaber, and aparently to buy LOTS
of advertisements in unlikely places, like on DU.

Please don't tell me its because I need to donate more to DU, since I'm dirt poor. The $5 or so I could donate
instead of use on food is not going to make a difference like Chris Dudley's dirty Republican money, so what to
do?

I just didn't realize that ANYone with enough money could literally buy their way onto DU. :wtf:

I just don't get it.

1. And I don't get posts like yours. If you can't afford to donate to DU then don't complain about the
ads that keep it running.

2. let me guess that that was a google ad that you saw before you signed in?
Google ads land about anywhere, so often we get ads from the neo-confederates.
I believe that a charge is created for the advertiser when someone clicks on the ad. Or so I have been told.
Ergo when I see one, I spend a few minutes wasting their money for them.

3. The ads are google ads.
If you donate to DU, you don't have to see the google ads. That is why you don't see many people complaining about the ad, I don't see it, and many others don't either. In fact, when the ads pop up again, I know it is time to donate to DU again. DU has no control over what ends up advertised on the google ads, but if there is one that is particularly offensive, you can contact Skinner and let him know. They can deal with it on a message by message basis.

7. Ads bought at DU help DU operate. Who cares what they say?
Edited on Sun Oct-03-10 12:58 PM by TexasObserver
I hope that many Republicans waste their money buying ads here. Take their money and vote them down.

I am reminded of the late, great congressman Henry B. Gonzalez of San Antonio. He was a legend of the LBJ era, a very good Democrat who brought it. He represented many poor people, and many poor Hispanic people. He came into congress with JFK's presidential election and served until the end of the 20th century.

One election he was facing a Republican by the name of Goode in the general election. Goode was having beer and Mexican food parties all over the district, trying to cut into Henry's lead. Someone in media asked Henry about it, and he said:

I tell my constituents -
"Drink Goode beer,
eat Goode ta-ma-les.
Go to the polls
and vote Gon-za-les!"

13. It's not a matter of shame
It's a matter of automation. Google isn't deliberately serving these ads on DU. The ads appear because the keywords that the advertisers bid on are mentioned here:

A GOP advertiser pays for the keyword 'Congress' and when sites on the Google ad network serve content containing the keyword 'Congress', that GOP client's ad shows up.

A site that is participating in the Google ad network can filter out offending ads once they've been brought to attention on the matter. If you see a Google ad that you think doesn't belong here, then please inform the DU administrators:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/contact.html

Better yet, keep in mind that the advertiser has to pay Google (and the sites on its network) every time a surfer 'clicks' on their ad. The more popular the keyword, the higher the price per click. If you really want to stick it to a GOP advertiser, click their ads - often.
