7. Did you ever watch the Bush v Gore or Bush v Kerry debates? |
|
Bush either was a moron or did an excellent imitation of one, and that was probably WHY Republicans loved him.
They wanted to believe that someone as stupid as themselves could be president, kind of like their ''don't tax the rich because I might win the lottery and join them'' philosophy.

"People" felt they would have a good time having a beer with him ... Why they equated that with the ability to be president I will never know.
Perhaps its because I have an IQ above 12 .... or because I don't drink beer ... I simply felt embarrassed for him.

11. The people I know who like Palin.... |
|
are quite a bit like her. Their lives are full of messes like knocked up daughters and sons one step ahead of the law, a 2nd rate education and mediocre career. They like Palin because she is like them, but a "star" anyway. They love the idea that she is smarter than those with fancy educations and successful lives.
It's the new democratization of being celebrity and an authority. And it sucks.

12. I don't think she's a moron |
|
She's not the sharpest card in the deck but she's smart enough to know how to package herself and to get her talking points across. She's attractive and that is a plus. She'd never have made it this far without her looks.
Her appeal is that people who have limited life experiences can identify with her. She didn't go to an Ivy League college or travel the world. In a way she's like the people who sign on to these reality shows and people do love reality shows. THe "She's just like me!!!" meme has a lot of weight. She's an intellectual lightweight and that's part of the reason people identify with her.
As a celebrity she has some influence to promote candidates who have her reactionary views, but as it stands now, I don't really see her going any further.

18. Because GOP men want her and GOP women want to be her |
|
Conservatives see her as cute, perky, folksy, full of gumption, and a voice in the wilderness instead of an outsider. And you can't convince me that a bunch of Republican men aren't secretly hoping for a Sarah Palin panty shot to hit the tabloids (it happened to Hillary Clinton over a decade ago).
Sarah Palin is a dainty little Christmas package tied up with a pretty pink bow, but inside the package there's nothing but hot air and gas.

21. Because they think she is authentic and they feel grounded by her. Because |
|
she makes it 'okay' to be ignorant. Know nothings can relate to her every time there is an erruption of Palin ignorance. They feel bad for her and themselves. But they can relate and that is all that matters.

25. One reason only: because she's pretty. |
|
She put a pretty face on the same old ugly message. Because it's the only new idea they're offering, they're going to use her until it stops working--when she will be tossed on the Katherine Harris discard pile.
The caveat here is that Palin's personal life may prove interesting enough to keep Americans following the reality show that is her life. It may already be that that is the sole remaining reason she keeps appearing on the television.
Come to think of it, I haven't been seeing her on the TV much lately. Is she not aging well?
