By we I mean the USA.
How can we survive if wide swaths of the electorate believe some of the things they believe and worse that significant portion of the political establishment spends so much time and effort reinforcing these beliefs.
How do you have a conversation with somebody who literally thinks that Adam and Eve kept pet Dinos in their back yard? How do you have a conversation with somebody who thinks that gays can be reprogrammed to be straight? How do you have a conversation with someone who thinks that Glenn Beck "gets it"?
How do progressives break through this cone of ignorance and reach these people?
We have to figure out a way or we are collectively boned.

16. Good? Heck, I find a lot of people even on DU who think the public option was unpopular. |
|
How do we break through *that* barrier?

2. Because those type of people are a distinct minority in this country. |
|
And many of them don't even vote.
SEE: Election Results, U.S. National, Year 2008.

3. Heh... I'm surrounded by these people IRL |
|
Basically it's impossible to talk about anything other than the weather and maybe sports without either rolling over or ending up in a huge argument.
Then I come on DU and end up in the same damn arguments, it's really discouraging.

4. it's just so frustrating |

I was recently exposed to the worst Tea Party cliche one could imagine: a wealthy retiree (husband is a retired wall street broker) drives an Escalade, recently showed off her new rolex, vacations every quarter, is also on SS disabilty for a mild chronic disease.
Yet this person had the utter gall to complain about "Obamacare".
Seriously.
How can you even have an intelligent conversation with someone who is so obtuse that they don't realize that they are a walking, talking contradiction of their own political beliefs?

Barney Frank said it: "Talking to you, maam, would be like talking to my dining room table."

a lunatic. Seriously. Wide swaths? Try tiny pockets. The same old 30%. They have always been there, and they keep losing ground. Our boning status does not hinge on a small minority of idiots and religionists. You will not convince me that it does. Sorry about that.

13. George W Bush was POTUS for eight years.. |
|
And actually got more votes in 2004 than in 2000.
Evidence of extreme stupidity in the electorate really doesn't get much more concrete than that.
