Now that several gay kids are dead, the Mormons arrive to rub salt in the wounds
A gay kid just killed himself. Several in fact. And this bigoted piece of scum thought it was a good time to deliver yet another anti-gay tirade. (Did he even bother mentioning the suicides? Even that witch Maggie Gallagher felt the need to at least mention the kids, before going on to defend her hate.)

These are the bigots who took away our right to marry in California. Who tell our children that they don't deserve to love or be loved. That God would never want us to be gay. It's bigots like this who are responsible for our children thinking they have no option other than suicide.

Boyd K. Packer, president of the Mormon "Quorum of Twelve Apostles":

“There are those today who not only tolerate but advocate voting to change laws that would legalize immorality, as if a vote would somehow alter the designs of God’s laws and nature,” Boyd K. Packer, president of the church’s Quorum of Twelve Apostles, said in a strongly worded sermon about the dangers of pornography and same-sex marriage. “A law against nature would be impossible to enforce. Do you think a vote to repeal the law of gravity would do any good?” MORE:

125. I was thinking of that legend of the Mormon settlement in Utah that says
...when they first arrived a plague of Locusts descended on them and would have destroyed all their crops had it not been for the
miraculous appearance of seagulls (a whole BUNCH of seagulls) who swooped down and ate up all the locusts.
And I thought that a huge flock of seagulls would be a pretty smashing, albeit technically challenging grand finale in a Broadway musical.
Not worth the trouble of explaining, was it?

61. There's also the one where a fresh-faced Mormon kid from Utah moves to South Park
and promptly attempts to convert everybody. The highlight: A musical retelling of the story of Joseph Smith, to the tune "dum-dum dum-dum dum". While Smith is "re-translating" the golden tablets, his friend's wife dares to question their authenticity. "Lucy Harris smart, smart, smart, Martin Harris dum! Dum, dum, dum, dum, dum!"

38. No doubt
You see, it's okay according to their gawd for a FLDS hetero guy to have seven wives, three of them under the age of 16, but by gawd those gays better not want even one!

Fat old white guys raping teenagers is great, healthy sex ordained by the creator; two consenting adults of the same gender get gawd's condemnation.

Boggles the mind the way they make up the "rules" and "Science" to benefit themselves and call that Gawd's Will.

"I get mine as much as I want it cuz Gawd luvs me BEST. You get nothing and you like it or you're going to hell!"

12. Someone should tell Packer
that no U.S. law can alter the basic nature of LGBT Americans.

For those who don't know, this was said at their church General Conference, which means it was broadcast into all Mormon churches around the globe and carried into homes on their satellite TV channel. It will be rebroadcast several times. It wasn't just another Sunday sermon. This is what they thought was most important to tell their worldwide membership this year.

I also noticed this line:
he power to create offspring “is not an incidental part of the plan of happiness. It is the key — the very key.”

Imagine what that says to a man or woman who wants to have children but can't. Doesn't it mean that they can't be part of God's plan of happiness? There are Mormons in that situation who hear things like this and stay Mormon because they believe it's God's one and only true church. Consequently, they suffer years of depression and self-loathing in much the same way LGBT Mormons do. They can only look forward to the day when they will be resurrected from the dead and God will "fix" them. It's very sad.

That's exactly why full equality has yet to happen.

That's exactly the ammunition that's gives strength to the bigots and bullies in America.

It's why people are dying.

ALL Americans should be ashamed of that kind of bigotry, indeed.

37. when I lived in Utah some years back
I remember there was an article in the newspaper about Utah having one of the highest rates of male youth suicide. And I wondered at the time if it was the pressure by the church to conform.

Which reminds me of a discussion I had with my Mormon boss. One day he told me that we all needed to believe the same because if we all believed in the same thing then there would be no more wars or killing. I just looked at him in astonishment. I told him if we all believed the same and some doctrine was unjust or cruel there would be no one to question it, and if someone questioned it they probably would be put to death. When everyone is blind, where is there room for an epiphany or enlightenment? Told him, I do not believe, will never believe, in the doctrines of Joseph Smith and if everyone believed the same, then we would find other reasons to bully and kill, even if we were all the same skin color, it could come down to eye color.

Anyway, to me that was a disturbing statement he made.

Therefore there are an excess of homeless and expelled young men from the communities that have no where else to go and no support networkk.

single Mormon spouse. Not every Mormon family are polygamists.

The crazy thing though, is among the Mormons I have known, even ones that aren't related all kinda look the same. I don't know if its just the influence of the church on the individual, or if its a small gene pool... but its kinda weird.

I told them that I hate their church for what they did with prop 8, then I told them to fuck off, and then I slammed the door in their faces. True story.

They were off my property within seconds. I'm a big guy and I look pretty menacing, even though I'm pretty much a softy in most areas and I hate confrontation. But I think I scared the hell out of them, and it felt REALLY REALLY good. I saw them the next day as I was going out to my car. They avoided me at all costs, refusing to make even eye contact with me. I used to be nice to them when they showed up even though I disagreed with them. But I've taken the gloves off. I see no reason to be nice and civil to people that are out to destroy you.

I just said "hu-hum, hu-hum", they left a copy of the Book of Mormon and got away. I'm a wuss.

45. Believe me, getting to this point in my life has taken me a lot of work
Edited on Mon Oct-04-10 01:07 PM by Downtown Hound
I think being an activist on this issue has helped me a lot. On the day that the CA State Supreme Court upheld prop 8, I got arrested for civil disobedience. I remember all the beautiful gay and lesbian couples crying on the steps of the court when the decision was reached. Seeing firsthand the destruction and heartache these hypocritical shitbags inflict on truly wonderful and amazing people has helped give me quite a spine when dealing with them. I watched all these lovely gay couples kissing as they were being handcuffed and taken away. It was a powerful and emotional sight.

Not too long ago I was quite the wuss when doing things like this also. Don't beat yourself up over it. Just work on it. One of these days, maybe you'll be able to tell some Mormons to fuck off as well. LOL.

A lot of us are coming to that for a lot of reasons.

Turning the other cheek only gets you broken teeth.

Speaking out my frighten people, but it becomes necessary. People like Woody Guthrie and Malcolm X and many others knew this.

81. Well let's look at your definition of bully
On the one hand you have a bunch of well funded group of religious zealots and hypocrites that use their wealth and influence to deny millions of people their civil rights. And on the other hand, you have somebody that told them to fuck off and slammed the door on them for it.

If that's being a bully, then I'm a bully. I've been called worse.

I presented you with a hypothetical scenario about how that isn't always so. The Mormons may not have physically raped me, but they raped many others of their civil rights. And all you can do is whine about the fact that I scared two of them that came onto MY property to continue their assault on the civil rights on millions of people.

And giving Mormons shit for denying civil rights to others is a form of self defense in my book. It's letting them know that there are consequences for bigotry and denying rights to others.

I don't think I actually think I accomplished something tangible beyond giving some Mormons a piece of my mind. And that was enough for me. It made up a little bit for them trying to legally dissolve the marriage that my gay cousin got during the brief time that gay marriage was legal in California. Yes, they tried to destroy a family member of mine's marriage. And you expect me to be civil to them for that? And you expect me to not take a small amount of pleasure from seeing those two assholes scared? Well fuck that, and fuck you too.

Fuck with my family and I come after you. And if you get scared in the process, that's mother fucking sweetness to me. And as I've said, if you think that makes me a bully, then I really don't give a shit. Go ahead and think I'm a bully. I think you're a pussy, so I guess we each have our own opinion of the other.

Being angry is part of being human but not everyone enjoys people being scared of them.

You took your empowerment at the cost of another persons.

And what you said vindicates what I wrote because you said that empowerment through anger is a dead end road. BULLSHIT. Getting angry about injustice is the first and foremost step to empowerment.

And My defending myself against you is working just fine. You are the one that has failed to present any meaningful discourse beyond calling me a bully because I made two Mormons scared. I have presented my reasons for doing so many times over, but you don't hear them. All you hear is, "Anger, fear, enjoyment, bully." Anger.

Sure, anger can be a first step but people don't stay there. They move on and they don't try and scare people into believing what they believe.

Anger gets you nowhere. Determination, belief, willingness to sacrifice? Those types of behavior will take you far.

But I doubt any of the folks working on marriage-equality right now enjoy scaring people. That's your damage.

And I chose the path you're advocating, by the way. I didn't fight back. Guess what it got me?

More, and longer, bullying. Had I thrown just one punch it would have stopped. My parents were just like you, and told me to "let it go", to "take the high road", to "prove I'm better than them". It didn't work. It never does.

The only thing your attitude gets kids who were or are being bullied is more of the same.

And the sheer fact that you think I'm actually trying to be scary over the net just shows how disconnected you are from reality. All I'm doing is expressing my opinions. I realize that that probably scares you very much with all the bullying you've probably endured, but that's really all it is.

I get points for emotions? What is this? Net wars with Proteus Lives? I think you're probably a very lonely person that gets their rocks off by stirring shit up on the net. The sheer fact that you critique this like it's a sporting contest shows that it's all just a game to you.

Well it's not a game to me. The civil rights of people I love are not a game, and I will attack anybody that attempts to deny them. And if I have success, then yes, I'll feel good about it, even if that means scaring two hypocritical bigots that COME TO MY DOOR. And whatever problem you have with that you can shove up your ass and spin it around until you're blue in the face.

Gee, how many points do I get for that Proteus? Are you going to hold up your little net wanker score card? Do I get points for emotion? Do I lack originality? Tell me where I need to improve, great net master. Not that I really care.

Ah whatever. Going out now (you should try that sometime), and I really won't respond to you anymore. It's just that everytime I try and leave, you come up with something that's even more stupid than before, and I can't help myself. But this time, I really am done. Later.

It's high time all of us started telling these people where to get off. I did something similar with some Christians who came to the door. I didn't scare them, but I did tell them I had no interest in spending eternity with their god. Actually, I was house-sitting when this happened, but the owner of the house (a longtime friend) thought it was pretty amusing, too.

I did pretty much the same thing to the critters (a 'man and wife' team, apparently) who showed up at my door on a Sunday morning. My fear is that this has been happening all along and we are only now having this good of a visibility into it because we are paying attention.

Very troubling. Something must be done about this immediately.

And the truth is, it's actually much better now than it used to be, scary as that is. It's better now because it gets noticed, that never used to be the case. If you really want to hear terrible stories, just talk to counselors who have worked with gay and lesbian homeless youth. The stories those kids have to tell are absolutely heartbreaking, the abandonment by their families, the rejection, the humiliation. Sad, sad stuff.

77. As a gay man who was raised LDS and whos family is LDS still
this makes me sick - literally and figuratively. I cant imagine the pain his statements are causing my family members, especially those in my family who are pro marriage equality (the rest are polite enough but just keep their mouths shut when Im around).

Mr. Packer has a nickname among those that have left the church: Boyd KKK Packer

Wonder why?

"For every exception we can show you tens and hundreds, and I suppose thousands, who were not happy. Plan, young people, to marry into your own race. This counsel is good, and I hope our branch presidents are listening and paying attention. The counsel is good. " - Boyd K. Packer http://mormontruth.blogspot.com/2005/12/boyd-k-packer-current-mormon-apostle.html

There are some men who entice young men to join them in these immoral acts. If you are ever approached to participate in anything like that, it is time to vigorously resist.
While I was in a mission on one occasion, a missionary said he had something to confess. I was very worried because he just could not get himself to tell me what he had done.
After patient encouragement he finally blurted out, "I hit my companion."
"Oh, is that all," I said in great relief.
"But I floored him," he said.
After learning a little more, my response was "Well, thanks. Somebody had to do it, and it wouldn't be well for a General Authority to solve the problem that way"- Boyd K. Packer http://www.lds-mormon.com/only.shtml

146. I wish more gay folks would learn to ignore these individuals and
organizations. They know not of what they speak - they're ignorant, fearful, and idiotic. The only ones who listen to their crap are their spineless followers and others who lack the aptitude to think for themselves. Their ignorance of human sexuality is breathtaking, so why would anyone with half a brain give them the time of day? What particularly concerns me are gay kids listening to the constant drumbeat of ignorance, and thinking the "grown-ups" know what the hell they're talking about.

These are teachable moments - the stupidity and ignorance of some adults are on clear display; all kids, but particularly gay kids need to see it for what it is - and laugh at it, and not internalize mindless ramblings.

The adults who bash others based on human sexuality should be absolutely ashamed of their ignorance, but alas, they're too stupid to realize how ignorant they really are. Were it not for the negative effect their ramblings have on kids, it would be laughable.

As for Mr. Packer, I would encourage him to focus on his own flock, many of whom can be found in Denver gay bars every weekend.

Hello Mr. Packer?!?!?!

The very thing he states so eloquently is the exact argument AGAINST making a law that prohibits same-sex marriage...
