It was lame
If this is an indication of the enthusiasm gap, we're in a whole heap of trouble, come November.

2. Depends on the time the first shot was taken. I was there and there were a lot of people,

but union people began to leave around 2:30, to get to their buses, that were leaving at 3:30. I saw a TON of people, the subways were so jammed that we waited a long time before getting on , because only a limited number of people were allowed at one time to go downstairs.

Take heart, the polls are tightening, and Patty Murray is ahead in Wash. by 11 points, there's a lot of good news out there!

We need to move on and stay energized.

7. Taking into account the dates and the shadows in both photographs,
both of these pics were taken at approximately the same time of day.

The shadows will be longer at the One Nation rally due to seasonal angle of the sun. They would also be longer if the One Nation pic was taken a hour or so before the beck rally pic if both rallies were held on the same day.

I would guess both these images were taken at the same time of day.

3. Ed also talked about this on his radio show today. He said some
pics were taken VERY EARLY before a lot of people got there and that this was a FIVE HOUR rally! In picture taking timing is everything.

4. Judging by the shadows in the pictures, the second one was shot a good bit later in the day..
Note that the trees to the left of the Reflecting Pool have shadows well into the Pool on the first picture while in the second picture the shadows don't even come to the edge.

5. According to another thread, organizers said 175,000 showed, and
Amy Goodman said 100,000+. That top pic looks like maybe 6-8k max. So, were they off by more than a magnitude of ten, or was the top pic taken an hour before it started, or a half hour after it ended? Any evidence it was taken at the height of the rally?

Pictures CAN lie, you know.

12. "Pictures CAN lie, you know."
Remember this one taken at a Bush rally in 2004?

Classic...

6. Keep in mind...
Most Beck rally attendees are retired and/or living off the government. They have lots of spare time for rallies.

Take a picture on Oct. 30 for a fair comparison.

14. I was there, and there were far more than the photo indicates.
A great deal of us weren't seated. We were walking all over the place to see the various groups at the booths on the sides.

I'm not really making excuses, since comparing the two rallies is kind of a non-starter. FailFest was bankrolled by the Koch Brothers and FreedomWorks, had two conservative zer . . . er . . . heroes headlining and was promoted on Fox News for months and a few other major cable media channels a couple of weeks prior. OneNation had primarily word-of-mouth and Internet promotion - barely a mention on any cable channels even a week prior to the event.

During the rallies, compare the coverage. FailFest was covered on three or four channels. For us it was CSPAN and . . ..

Doesn't matter, because the Stewart/Colbert rallies (many of the attendees will be Democrats/progressives) are going to eclipse both. And that bodes well.

19. My offer is still good
Democrats hold their majorities in both the House and the Senate for the next Congress. For a $10 donation to DU, I'll cover your bet. I've had only one taker so far, and I'm willing to accommodate another four folks who want to bet against the Democrats.

22. Even if this is accurate,
why are we in a whole heap of trouble in November? That's an awfully HUGE -- and pretty ridiculous -- leap based on a single rally.

25. Yeah, I got it and my statement still stands
I'm sick and tired of all the hysteria around here about November. The same people had the same hysteria in 2008. And just like then, I'll say it again. We have nothing to worry about.
