uh oh, Raese(R WV)candidate for Senate isn't a residence of West Virginia!
Raese has homes in Florida, Colorado as well as West Virginia

FAIRMONT — Where does U.S. Senate candidate John Raese actually live?

The wealthy businessman owns homes in Florida, West Virginia and Colorado. There is nothing wrong with that.

However, as a Senate candidate, the question of where Raese lives means more.

Whoever wins the Senate seat in November will have to be a resident of West Virginia the day that person is elected, according to Article I, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution. That point was confirmed by the West Virginia Secretary of State’s office.

Raese is running against Democrat Joe Manchin for the unexpired term in the U.S. Senate caused by the death of Robert C. Byrd in June.

Raese owns a steel fabricating business and a limestone company and is part owner of a statewide radio network and Morgantown newspaper.

2. I heard an interview with Raese and he blamed the tariffs
Edited on Mon Oct-04-10 08:05 PM by doc03
GWB put on cheap illegally dumped steel caused all our unemployment. Get this, he said the tariffs on Chinese steel caused steel prices to increase and in turn steel fabricators couldn't afford to buy expensive American made steel. So in other words he was in favor of shutting down the steel mills in this country so he could buy cheap foreign steel. What is even more unbelievable WV that lost thousands of jobs in the steel industry will vote for the asshole. His entire campaign he has consisted of showing a picture of Manchin and Obama sitting together at Senator Byrd's funeral service. Senator Byrd's family complained about him using the pictures in his ads but he kept on using them.

3. if this is him . . .
Edited on Mon Oct-04-10 08:08 PM by ellenfl
this property is listed as his homestead/primary residence here in palm beach. that makes him a florida resident.

Property Appraiser for Palm Beach County

homestead property in florida is protected from creditors so many wealthy people claim their primary residence here for those protections . . . but he is wealthy so the rules surely don't apply to him, anyway. :sarcasm:

6. No, he isn't!
I read an article somewhere today that said WV voters are leery about sending a democrat to DC. While he remains a popular governor, they fear he could be too helpful to Obama/Pelosi/Reid.

Manchin is trying to distance himself from the dems in power. If Raese is really a non-resident, this is very good news for Manchin.

12. He'll make Ben Nelson look like John Kerry.
Manchin cares about Manchin--everything else is just a temporary distraction. I can't imagine anyone less qualified to take Byrd's place than he is. He has less dignity and gravitas than Daffy Duck. This is the guy who pulled strings to get his unqualified frat buddy a job as the President of West Virginia University--the same President who only a year later had to resign for gross incompetence and scandal. This is the guy who pulled strings to get ANOTHER of his frat buddies the job as head coach--Rich Rodriguez--who then bailed out right before a big bowl game to go coach for Michigan. He's virulently anti-choice and anti-gay. He loves corporations and hates public assistance. He spit in the face of union labor when he personally blocked Blair Mountain from being registered as a national historic site, and his reason? Because someday Massey might want to strip mine it! He's like a taller Shrubya with a "D" after his name.

The DNC loves him--he's from a "red state", he's tall and decent-looking, and he has a history of being able to get right-wingers to vote for him. To be honest, I think that the douchebag has Presidential aspirations, and the DNC is definitely watching him...and I'm saying right now--if that day ever comes, I will NOT vote for Manchin for President. Never, never, never. The man is the worst sort of smarmy, used-car-salesman politician, and I don't even want to THINK about him in charge of the military or appointing SCOTUS judges and cabinet members. He'd probably nominate his frat buddies to THOSE jobs, too.

:grr:

Yeah, can you tell that I really DON'T like this guy? Ugh.

13. Someone to fight for the coal industry from inside the Democratic Congress.
Doesn't that make him a little more dangerous than a Republican who will be easily dismissed?

15. his name is also on the deed and he claims the homestead
exemption, so he is legally a florida resident . . . and, by extension, illegally a wv resident, or vice versa. i posted a link to the palm beach county property appraiser's page showing this, above.
