They aren't actually paying for the service provided by the fire department, so why should they benefit, if their house burns down?

1. They dodge income taxes, not property taxes
And in the vast majority of US jurisdictions, that's how fire protection is paid for.

8. No, I'm not basing anything on a false premise
It's called a parable. Perhaps you might have read some of My early work of a similar nature?

The point is "Give to Caesar what is Caesars" and Caesar's fire department keeps your house from burning down. Everyone should pay. Those who have more money should pay more. Nobody should lose their home over it.

6. Is it true the guy was a Klan member and a teabagger?
I understand he used to be an urban survivalist but moved to the country.

Does that change anything?

10. The truth is many property owners become delinquent on tax payment.
The fire department does not check to assure that such property owners have actually paid their taxes before providing services to the property.

During times of real estate upheaval, many, many properties default on their duty to currently pay property taxes. They lack the cash flow, and figure the taxing authority won't take action or foreclose for years.

In future world, however, the suggestion you make could become reality.
