In fact, the Paul Cranick story may have already won the midterm elections for us.

If this is an example of the Rethug/tebagger a-la-carte-pay-as-you-go smaller government, we must get out the vote and repeal the Bush tax cuts indeed.

Attention to one degrades attention to the other? I think that's the craziest thing I ever heard. Debating the merits of policies like the one you mention is part of being involved in an election.

8. too simply a choice and
the real issue about the FD story isn't the fee, it is that they allowed the house to burn which is cruel and unusual punishment. It goes to the very question that the torture issue raised and debated has allow such a cruel act to be even questioned in our country. The election is important and it is shameful that the debate on the FD even exist because it goes against the very principles we claim in our nation since our beginning.
