Conviction in the Connecticut massacre case
It doesn't get any more gruesome than this.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (CBS/WFSB) After eight days of grisly testimony about a fatal Connecticut home invasion, a jury found paroled burglar Steven Hayes guilty Tuesday of capital murder in the July 2007 deaths of Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters Hayley, 17, and 11-year-old Michaela.

1. Does CT have the death penalty?
If not, this case would be the impetus for one.

6. It's in the article
But yes, it's on the books with one execution in the last fifty years.

3. I'm having a hard time with this one
Edited on Tue Oct-05-10 06:01 PM by DiverDave
I am struggling mightily with my anti death penalty stance right now.

I know, intellectually that we shouldn't kill people, but there HAS to be exceptions, there just HAS TO BE.

The torture of an 11 year old child is so horrific that I cannot, in my heart, protest if they get the death penalty.

People like this should not be allowed to live, and I'm just sorry that we cannot torture them the way they tortured those poor girls.
You have to know that they were pleading and begging for their lives.

I had to stop there I cant see the screen through my tears.

Fry them, And I would pull the switch myself.

Torture... of an 11... year... old...
God damned animals.
Varelse

But I know we mustn't kill them, but there HAS to be a way to punish the same way they did, somehow.

I think they should be beaten on evey birthday of those that they killed. slowly.

I am so torn, I really am struggling with this.

4. Not just torture of an 11 year old but sexual assault of an 11 year old...
I'd pull the switch and not think twice... There ARE some cases where the death penalty is warranted, this is one.

14. And the guy took "pornographic" pictures of this 11 yr old on his cell phone after he raped her.
And they put pillowcases over their heads and poured gasoline on them prior to setting the house on fire.

there is something so evil here I cannot even describe it...

8. I know what you mean!
I don't like the death penalty either, but it just seems to me that there are crimes so heinous that...well....

I mean, it's not like killing those girls and their mom was necessary after they got their damned money. What was the fucking point of that? I don't get it.

Cold blooded murder. Not even the (sort of) mitigating factor of a crime of passion.

I'm struggling with this.

One thing for sure, though...if they do end up getting the death penalty, I will not be sad for them. I will feel nothing at all. Squashing a bug with my shoe will have more meaning to me.

Put him away in solitary for the rest of his life.

No death penalty. It's wrong no matter what.

10. Then you are stronger then I am
Senseless, they didn't need to kill them.
They did it for the 'thrill'

I cant see were these 2 have the right to live.

There has to be a time when death is right, and I really think this is the one.

To kill them AFTER THEY GOT THE MONEY??
Nope, they need to die, painfully.

16. Yes, the creature
Djur (translated as: "slavering beast"): are the monsters. "The dire beast that comes in the night with slavering jaws." Translated from Swedish, djur means "animal".

It's from "The speaker for the dead" by Orson Scott Card

21. Yeah, good series of books. Haven't read them all
But I figured Djur (monster) would be a better description of these murderers.
