41. This has spawned so many threads because it is a great divide.

Progressives unite around certain concepts, one of which is the need for public services to exist for everyone, as a right of being alive in this country. If you are in a wreck, we will come get you. If you are bleeding, we will take you to a hospital and get emergency treatment. We will do some things as a matter of respect for your needs as a human.

Reaganites attacked that, with Randian thinking and a lack of respect for the universality of the human conditiion. They invented this kind of "pay for services" attitude. Many who have grown up with that accept it, as if it was right and good.

Most of us are on the humanitarian side of that divide, and we typically find offense at all things Reagan and Rynd.
