Detroit Council Votes to Impeach Bush

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit City Council is calling for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Yesterday's resolution was sponsored by Councilwoman Monica Conyers. She's the wife of Congressman John Conyers, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee where any impeachment proceedings would start.

But the Michigan Democrat has said that he doesn't intend to move forward with any impeachment effort.

The resolution has no official weight. It says Bush and Cheney conspired to defraud the country by misleading lawmakers and the public about Iraq to justify going to war.

VT Progressives Unanimously Endorse Bush Impeachment Resolution

Submitted by Chip on Sun, 2007-05-20 10:44. Activism | Impeachment
WCAX-TV reports:

Vermont's Progressive Party unanimously endorsed a resolution calling for the impeachment of President Bush Saturday.

Fifty party members turned out in Montpelier for the Progressive's quarterly meeting. They unanimously endorsed a resolution calling on Democratic Congressman Peter Welch to initiate impeachment proceedings of the President and Vice President. It's similar to the impeachment resolutions approved at 35 town meetings in March and in the Vermont Senate two weeks ago. But Welch has steadfastly opposed the request.

"I don't think the Progressive Party is trying to get Congressman Welch to do or not do anything in particular," said the Progressive Party's Martha Abbott. "I think we are trying to express the views from the grassroots of people about this issue, you know, to the world in general, to the country in general."

For now, Representative Dennis Kucinich of Ohio remains the only member of Congress who has introduced a bill calling for impeachment.

MA Dems Call on Congressional Reps for Bush-Cheney Impeachment, Troop Redeployment and Peace for Iraqi Nation

Submitted by Chip on Sun, 2007-05-20 08:59. Activism | Impeachment

The Massachusetts Democratic Party passed a resolution calling for action by their congressional representatives consistent with the US Constitution as described in the Jefferson Manual LIII, Section 604 (resolutions that call for impeachment, or call for an investigations that suggests impeachment are considered "privileged" and must be addressed before other business).

The resolution text reads:

Resolution to Impeach
George W. Bush & Richard B. Cheney

Whereas George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney have:

Deliberately misled the nation about the threat from Iraq in order to justify a war;

Condoned the torture of prisoners in violation of the Geneva Convention & US law;

Approved illegal electronic surveillance of American citizens without a warrant; and,
Whereas these actions have undermined our constitutional system of government, damaged the reputation of America, and threatened our national security,

Therefore, the voters of the Massachusetts Democratic Convention call upon the Massachusetts delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives to investigate these charges and if the investigation supports the charges, vote to impeach George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney as provided in the Constitution of the United States of America.

We, the undersigned delegates, place this resolution before the Massachusetts Democratic Convention on May 19, 2007.

In addition, David Agnew reports passage on a voice vote of a resolution that the Massachusetts Democratic Party urges its Senators and Congressmen in Washington to support vigorously the enactment as soon as possible of HR 1234 and to emphasize in so doing the utter immorality of allowing US troops and innocent Iraqis to die and be maimed in a war that is harming rather than enhancing US national security and honor.

HR 1234, introduced by Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, calls for:

1. The US announces it will end the occupation, close military bases and withdraw.

2. US announces that it will use existing funds to bring the troops and necessary equipment home.

3. Order a simultaneous return of all US contractors to the United States and turn over all contracting work to the Iraqi government.

4. Convene a regional conference for the purpose of developing a security and stabilization force for Iraq.

5. Prepare an international security and peacekeeping force to move in, replacing US troops who then return home.

6. Develop and fund a process of national reconciliation.

7. Reconstruction and Jobs.

8. Reparations.

9. Political Sovereignty.

10. Iraq Economy.

11. Economic Sovereignty.

12. International Truth and Reconciliation

Walworth County, WI, Democratic Party Unanimously Approves 2nd Impeachment Resolution Citing Need for "Prompt Commencement"

Submitted by Chip on Sun, 2007-05-20 07:59. Activism | Impeachment
Ann Marie Ames of the Gazette staff reports from Sharon, WI:

The Walworth County Democratic Party has once again unanimously voted to impeach President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

At a meeting in Sharon Thursday night, the 200-member group voted to recommend "prompt commencement" of impeachment proceedings by the United State House of Representatives.

Party chairman Mark Pienkos will forward the party's decision to the offices of Wisconsin senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold, as well as house representatives.

The party's concerns have been ongoing, said board member Bob Burrows. The Walworth County Democrats made a similar unanimous decision in January 2006.

The party is one of hundreds of organizations and municipalities across the country making similar recommendations, Burrows said.

"All over the country there are so many organizations taking up this call," Burrows said. "People are really sitting up and paying attention."

1. I Sure Hope Those Organizers In Illinois...
...are also helping to organize and energize the Democratic party in that area. It was almost non-existant in 2000, but with some strong organizing, it can turn into another purple area...just like DuPage County. Rumors keep circulating that Hastert will hang it up next year and there's really no strong "gym teach" apparent. This district needs a little love here and not only to support what these folks are doing, but also to work in party building now that will add one more vote to bring real honesty and integrity back to government...and our country as well.

It took 13 colonies to throw out the last King George. Thirteen state Democratic parties have now passed resolutions demanding impeachment, nine of them since Nancy Pelosi ordered the Democratic Party away from impeachment.

The Impeachment Chronicles: Carter on Point While Bush Promotes Washington Fantasy
By Bill Hare - 05/19/2007 10:00:30 PM EST
http://www.politicalcortex.com/story/2007/5/19/22030/3181

Jimmy Carter's timely criticisms of George W. Bush's executive stewardship call attention once more to another war and impeachment discussion with comments by a besieged Richard Nixon alongside a George W. Bush who has currently shrouded himself in escapist fantasy.

As Richard Nixon, after winning office through a successful joint effort with Henry Kissinger to jettison Lyndon Johnson's effort to secure a Vietnam peace agreement was hovering on the brink of impeachment when he escaped into historical fantasy by comparing himself to a revered American president.

Nixon compared his travail to that of Abraham Lincoln in his bleakest moments during the Civil War. ......

Leftwing Blogosphere Desperately Grasps At Yet Another Impeachment Straw

As the clock ticks down on the Bush administration, the leftwing blogosphere is becoming ever more infected with impeachment fever to often comedic effect. ..... Most of these impeachment threads lack the vital element of legal grounds for impeachment so the leftwing nutroots have to be very creative to justify this course of action.....

12. "lack the vital element of legal grounds for impeachment"
ha!

Now that is funny

obviously they know nothing of the law
the Constitution
or much else it seems

of course, total ignorance of facts is no obstacle

There has never in US history been this degree of solid, irrefutable evidence of crimes of a presidential admin.

Impeachment on the table
An editorial — 5/21/2007 9:30 am
http://www.madison.com/tct/opinion/editorial/135447

The city of Detroit voted over the last week to tell Congress to impeach President Bush and Vice President Cheney. So, too, did the Massachusetts Democratic Party and the Vermont Progressive Party. Here in Wisconsin, the Walworth County Democratic Party did the same, reminding us that even in the more conservative parts of this state, there are still believers in the rule of law.

Across America, there is a rising call to put impeachment back on the table ......

Putting Impeachment On the Table - The Huffington Post
Jeff Cohen

From my perch as a consultant to Progressive Democrats of America, I see mounting pressure to put impeachment on the table. Momentum is building due to continuous revelations of an imperial White House bent on undermining our system of justice (now, with sick-bed coercion).

Among citizens and elected officials, including Members of Congress, there is growing sentiment that this reckless Administration is a threat to our Constitutional system.
And that Bush and Cheney must be aggressively investigated - "with appropriate remedies and punishment, including impeachment," in the words of a tough resolution passed by the California Democratic Party 18 days ago. ............
