Sigh, our 1st Sunday morning without the good reverend jerry...

Exodus 22:18-Today's Old Time Gospel Sermon, 'thou shalt not suffer a witch to live' (for jerry)

----------------------

In the original Hebrew manuscript, the author used the word m'khashepah to describe the person who should be killed. The word means a woman who uses spoken spells to harm others - e.g. causing their death or loss of property. Clearly "evil sorceress" or "woman who does evil magic" would be the most accurate phrases in today's English usage for this verse.

The Good News Bible uses the term "magic." This is also a poor selection because that term has been used to refer to: stage magic, sleight of hand, magic tricks.
ceremonial magic used to harm other persons.
ceremonial magic used to heal other persons.

The King James Version and Revised English Bible use the term "witch." In North America, the term normally refers to Wiccans -- the followers of the Wiccan religion. According to the Scofield Reference Bible this verse from the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) was written in the year 1491 BCE. This is some 650 years before the origin of the Celtic people circa 850 BCE from whom some elements of Wicca were taken. So Exodus 22:18 can hardly be referring to Wiccans.

-------------------------------------

Sadness prevails on this our first Sunday morning without the loving late reverend jerry falwell, may he rest in peace. So I will give this morning's sermon, and I will speak of course of INTOLERANCE.

Now what is a witch exactly? A witch can be a man, woman or child, your neighbor, your mother or brother, someone who is not like you, someone who has angered God by not obeying his every word precisely as ordained by the majority.

A witch could be someone who supports gay marriage, feminism, secularism, socialism, atheism, free thought, tolerance, someone from a religious sect you consider a cult. A witch could be a goat or a dog too, or a child even. Not being faithful enough or pious enough can be the sign of a witch, or worshiping some idol or concept not approved by the larger cults.

YOU could even be a witch, sitting right here in our congregation, or the person sitting next to you, and witches must die of course, all of them, painfully and preferably with lots of nice torture.

There was once a holocaust in Europe, a juggernaut in which approximately 10 million men, women and children were executed as witches, and it was all based on Exodus 22:18. 8 little words saw 10 million people murdered, 8 little words from the good book, taken literally.

Now remember, witches don't look like Margaret Hamilton from the Wizard of Oz, they look just like you and me, but they are different from you and me, they are evil, and evil must be destroyed to please God, we must not tolerate witches among us, they are agents of Satan, here to damn us all, but we must beat them to the punch.

Witches are the ones who caused the attacks on New York City and D.C., homosexual witches, feminist witches, liberal witches, socialist witches, atheist witches, Catholic witches, Muslim witches, Mexican witches, Black witches, Handicapped witches, Little Person witches, foreign witches, anti war witches, peace witches, Iraqi witches, Iranian witches, anyone who isn't exactly like me witches.

Remember these holy words from the holy book brothers and sisters, rid the world of the others, the evil ones, the whores of the Devil, the sub humans that live down the street from you, and across the world from you, they are all witches, and they must all die horribly, it says so in the good book.

Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. Read it. Understand it. Obey it.

3. And Gloria Steinem.
K.D. Lang, and all the mo's and D's here at DU.

It's all our fucking fault.

But I weep for the loving congregation. The poor, damp and tear-stained flock. You know I do, don't you?

I'm a man of tender feeling. That is no lie.
