America's 25 Most Dangerous Neighborhoods
I don't think I'll go shopping in those neighborhoods any times soon.

Where in America are people most likely to be murdered, raped, robbed or have their car stolen?

A new list, based on police reports, says that one Chicago neighborhood – around West Lake Street -- is the most dangerous in America, but also notes that Atlanta is home to four of the 25 worst neighborhoods.

Other hot spots include parts of Las Vegas, Cleveland and Memphis, Tenn.

So why look at neighborhoods and not cities? Well, even the cities with the highest crime rates can have relatively safe neighborhoods, making it less useful to generalize about an entire city.

1. I can't help but think of the time the FBI told my friends to beware of the LA gangs.
OK my soon to be friends of the PNP. Philippine National Police. They were here on training and I had to wait for my friend Bert to get back from a rice run. The FBI told them.. "don't go outside the hotel 'cause the gangs are goin' get ya'"

I told them that the gangs only killed each other over drugs and women and turf. in fact the Mexican mafia had instructed the Latino gangs to kill the black gangs and they wouldn't do it. Because they were friends. They would still kill each other over business but they posed no threat to civilians or to foreign cops. And sure enough after an evening of checking out the street they all came to the conclusion that it was BS and they found a closer rice place than Bert did.

For those locals he went to Vermont where the Philippine community is.... he didn't know where Vermont was except it was east. If he had missed Vermont Street. Vermont State is in the same direction from West Los Angeles where they were staying. I shudder to think ... nah he would have realized by the time he got to Arizona.

2. Strangely, Chicago has extremely draconian gun control laws ...
although that may change in the future after the McDonald v Chicago case decision by the Supreme Court.

4. Woo-hoo! I'll be spending all day Sunday in the fourth worst area!
It's where the free spay and neuter clinic takes place...yeah, i pull into the parking lot and stay there with screaming, scratching cats the whole time until it's time to leave...nowhere near there you want to sightsee.

5. The Philadelphia one makes me skeptical of the entire list.
That particular neighborhood isn't great (it's pretty much all projects), but it's not even the worst neighborhood in Philly. Even Camden has worse neighborhoods than that one.
