How much of the civil war can be attributed to the struggle over who controls future oil revenues?
If so, then where is the mainstream news coverage of this struggle?

Seems to me that the quicker this is resolved, the quicker we leave.

I listen to bits and pieces of the "mainstream" of which I was referring to.
Hardly, if ever, do I hear any reference to Iraqi oil there.
